i searched for 'license expiration/expire' here but didn't find anything about this, so i'll just ask. once your license expires at vb.com (mine is next year, so no worries yet), does your account here also become 'expired' (more like unusable)? i plan on renewing my license anyhow, but i was just curious about this...

Im sorry but what would you want with vB.org if you didnt have a vB Liscense. The only thing i can suggest is illegal.

for those that purchased their license, expires means your yearly renewal, to download upgrades, patches and such

erm. okay. i'd say more along the lines of a person didn't really care to upgrade their vB to new versions but still would like to have the chance of downloading hacks to further improve the functionality of their forum.
but sure, go ahead and pull the piracy card out.
fair enough. But if vB grows, the hacks will grow on the newer versions.

but in order to use your account over here, you must put in your license information. hence why the question even would come up. what happens if that license information, that your account over here is activated by, expires.
filburt, can you get a definite answer?

i agree with you on this. however, vB3 is just around the corner and i doubt very seriously that vB4 is coming out anytime in the next 2 years. i'm sure some people may not care to download updates once a few bug fixes in vB3 have been made.
like i said, i plan to renew next march, but for those who don't want to, this could answer some questions for them...

If you have an owned liscence, then you are entitled to run vBulletin on your server once the members area access has expired, so you are still liscenced to run vBulletin and hence you will still have access to the hacks.
If you get a leased liscence then once the year is up you should automatically remove your copy of vBulletin anyway.

What the crap is up with reply times...
true, personally im sticking with vb2.
but fair enough answer. So vB will still have a lot of bugs in the early versions so if their liscense did run out during vb3.1 (or whatever) they cudnt get vb3.5 etc. when hacks would be tailored for vb3.5

I very much anticipate a huge load of bugs in 3.0.0 which is why I won't upgrade WDF until at least 3.0.1. However vB2, if you look at it, is written pretty horribly in many parts as well as it is.
Fair enough, personally i have no reason to upgrade to vB3 at all. Nothing has perticularly wowwed me. The quick reply isnt "quick". The screen is too cluttered, etc. (i have been told u can turn unquick quick reply off tho)

The reply time delays have to do with server issues, not vB.org itself.

as an addition:
you can see the license will stay active so you can download hacks and so on here.
but you can't download the newest vb version on vb.com.
that's why we don't allow the attachment of full vb files as expired users would be able to get those files then...

Ah;)
When my licence is up for renewal ($30 as I have Full), can I still get to the members area, and change the URL of my vBulletin location? I presume so, but I am most likely paying $30 anyway;)

yes you can, just the download link is inactive when your owned license is expired

It seems that you can not create a new thread in support forum as well. I tried to create one to report a new bug I have run into, but I got no permission error.

hmm really?
i don't exactly know how the verification system works on vb.com, but if they use the same as here, it should be working...
but i think there they have some more detailed informations to check ;)

I'm assuming that vB3 (not assured) will look alot like the coding from HiveMail. Not the same (of course) but very organized and easy to read (i.e. properly spaced loops with tabbed proportions). :)
