View Full Version : Your highschool homepage
For all of you that still go to highschool (sorry Boofo :p) what is the link to your high school's homepage. I'm trying to get an idea of how to remake my schools (I'm not actually part of the webteam, but ours I think sucks and I do have an influence on the guy who runs it)
Anyway...my schools is www.mpsaz.org/rmhs/ yaya i realize it's under construction right now, but if it ever comes back you'll be able to see it.

They have to be section 508 compliant meaning that pretty much anybody regardless of browser or disability can access them. That means you can't use much in the way of tables, CSS, images, etc.

As you can see, they're both total pieces of crap and apparently don't comply with section 508 or whatever filburt1 mentioned because they've been using JavaScript 2.1, CSS, etc. for a long time -- and the sites STILL look like crap!
I, of course, have not been involved with it; my stuff can be seen at http://www.nicksaunders.net/ if you don't believe me.
@n!ck lol i can't even read the rollover links
@the bestschools kids, i would never think your schools were full of themselves :D or false hopes for that matter :p

You can still use CSS and such to be 508 compliant. It just has to be accessible in everything but a pager practically.
God help you if you ever have to do this like I briefly did: http://www.section508.gov/

Well now that somebody else bumped the thread, what the hell: all government sites have to be 508 compliant. Any site that you make can be as incompliant as you want. WDF isn't even XHTML-compliant (ironic when you think about it; WDF v4's forumhome will be).
Really the only major thing is accessiblity for the vision impaired. That means images without text, thoughtful page layouts, etc.
Try viewing your site in Lynx then reading aloud. That's a crude way of interpreting how a vision-impaired person interacts with your site.

filburt's right, I've worked with a few people who were partially blind and used screen readers, and you'd be surprised at how few of the pages out there are even navigable at all. Many pages use a lot of abbreviations or no clear markings of where links/images are and it is all very confusing to anybody using a reader...
I work for the government, and probably 90% of the pages on our site aren't compliant at all. Most of the web designers (there are probably 25+ of them in our organization) are incompetent, and the ones who do know stuff aren't able to implement anything because of the bureaucracy involved in changing the status quo. It's all quite sad.
