Whenever I try to quote someone in Service Requests I get a "You Do Not Have Permission to Access This Page" error. Was this intentionally made like this or does it need some fixing? :)

Look around in this forum. The question's been asked many times. ;)

We don't allow people to solicit their services here at vBulletin.org hence why no-one other than mods are allowed to reply to those threads. And mods are only allowed to reply just to prompt the user to give a price if they don't give one :)

Ah ok, I didn't realize we couldn't even reply :p
Weird you make a service request forum and you don't let people reply... I mean, if someone needs something similar to someone else, and sees someone who is capable replying to another thread, I would think it would be easier to just contact them. But hey, however you like is cool with me :D

We have had this discussion many times but came to the conclusion that the idea is to stop the soliciting of services. For example if I replied to a thread saying I do forum designs then that's like an open advertisement :) This is simply not the place for this :)

I really don't want to have the discussion with you as I hold no authority here, but isn't that what the service forum is for? It may be advertising, but at the same time people are asking for it :p
Sorry if I am beating a dead horse, just curious really.

You have to contact the threadauthors by PM, i don't think mor is needed is it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the reason it's done this way is because the owners and moderators here want vB.org to remain as a community, and not turn into a commercial site. Personally I think the way they're handling the Service Requests forum is great. It still allows people who would like to pay for custom scripts to ask for help, and at the same time keeps advertising and the commercial side of things to a minimum. :)

Thanks Tigga, that was exactly why we decided it as it is now :)

then why not consider a "Services Available" forum. Where each can have one post to list their capabilities.
Just a thought - I know that would be valuable to many new vb users like me ;)

That's too easily abused. People will just end up advertising themselves and their services.
If you need help, just post for help - people who can help will contact you.
