View Full Version : [vBarcade] Games Development Thread: Updating the first post...
There's now about 40 games released [joecool is guilty :p] for the arcade and it's becoming a real mess with 55 pages in that thread. Someone needs to be assigned the 'games monitor' job, to keep updating the first post with direct links to the posts in the threads which contain working versions of the games. I think this will benefit all, because as of now, if someone goes to that thread, they will just use the links in the first post to the games, because most will think that the 55 pages are just full of support, but really they are loads of quailty games hidden away, however futureal is quite busy and isn't around to update the first post.
I'm sure, if a moderator/supermoderator/admin isn't up for the job of doing so, someone [maybe joecool?] could be made a thread-moderator, (oh come on, it's not that hard to allow one user to edit a specified post, Xenon, Erwin? :p).
Anyway, I thought i'd post this because many are waiting on the first post being updated to find the games as going through 55 pages is not an easy task by any means, especially for those who don't have so much time on their hands.
Just an idea

There are more games.
I will have to check it out. I thought the first page was edited regularly.

There's easily 30 if not 40 games now :).

hmm, ok you're right, it wouldn't be that hard to implement it, but, i don't want to hack this board anymore if it's not really nessesary.
you have two possibilities now:
-always contact a SM/Admin to update the post
-contact the author and ask him to name someone who should become the first poster (userid change of the post ;)) and that he should contact me/erwin :)
Well I don't really know lol, I'm one of the victims of 'thread-mess' and I'm looking for a solution. Xenon, you could install your hack 'more options on edit post' to change the userid :p or run a simply query :p
Anywayyyyyyyyy Erwin seems to go to that thread sometimes, maybe he could do it? No idea.

N9ne, yeah the userid change is easy, but i need the permission of the author :)
I don't think we should change the userid of the first post actually, because that's like a hack thread for futureal..it will cause a lot of complications and issues for futureal...

AAHHHhhhhhh... I don't think I have time to comb through the thread to post links in the first post for the games. :) If someone does it and PMs me, I'll be more than happy to add it to the first post. :) But I won't be doing it on a daily basis (which is how often games are added).

erwin, i've added a second post for the list now whcih has joecool as author, i think this should be enough ;)
Thanks Xenon :). I'm sure this will benefit all.

Sorry for the lack of updating that post, guys. I will keep it going whenever I can, but usually I am working on the coding end of things. PHP and MySQL are my game, Flash not so much.
Glad that everybody is enjoying the hack! :)

As an addendum, would it be possible to keep the list of games that I've done so far in my post, and then keep a second list of games going that I have yet to add?
I understand the reasoning behind it, but I'd still very much like to be able to edit the list myself.
Thanks.

from my side it's ok, to have a list of your own games in your post ;)
i just added the second post to help the others here out, but it's always your thread, so you can say how you like it ;)

You can move your hack out of Beta and into Full Releases too, futureal. :) It's basically bug-free and works well. May need some optimization, but otherwise it's better than a lot of "full releases". :)

I will probably do that as soon as I get the next maintenance release out. I wanted to check it with 2.3.0 so I had to upgrade one of my forums to 2.3.0 (decided to do the big one, not Shadows) and then in the process I got an idea for all new hack (100% dynamic per-forum Rules: http://www.rctech.net/forum/prorules.php?forumid=16&s=) and by the time that was done I had wasted all my coding time for a few days. haha
There are still some things I really do need to fix in the arcade, though. Once that is done I will push it out as final and then get ready to port it all over to vB3 once that comes along.
