I've been trying to write a hack to link vB and another script together for nearly 2 weeks now. vbulletin.com sends me to here....but when I get here, I can't get access to any of the posts that would be helpful to me. What is the point? I thought this site was to help people. Why block out people who want to READ the threads? Are Jelsoft so scared that people are gonna copy parts of their script? Come on! There are enough free forum scripts out there for people not to bother with that. All it does, is deter people, like me, not to work with this script again...and certainly not to recommend it. I used to have high expectations of this script....but seeing the way the 2 'support' forums are ordered...I'm thinking again.

Just my opinion.

youradds,

You need to go to http://vbulletin.com/members/forums.php and enter the exact email that you are using for your account on these forums. This will give you access to the vBulletin license holders only forums. You will need your Customer Number and Password to access that area.

youradds,

You are currently showing up as unlicensed. To be able to download hacks and/or receive support here at vBulletin.org, we ask you to please click here (http://www.vbulletin.com/members/forums.php) (vB-germany users click here (http://www.vbulletin-germany.com/members/forums.php)) and enter your email address, to show us that you are licensed.

You will need to use your customer number and password (which will be in the email you got when you paid for your license) to access that page. Please note that your email is case sensitive.

Thank you.

You get access to every hack on here after you have prooved your license status. Nothing more nothing less.

Please dont forget, we are trying to make sure this product, and its add-ons do not get into the hands of unlicensed/illegal owners. This is all for our own good.

Yeah...slight problem there...I don't own the license. I'm doig work for a client, who already owns vB. They don't want to give out their license details to me...which is fair enough. I still think its a bit of a weird system. How many other PHP/Perl script sites do you see, where they sell a product, but are scared to let people into their posts, cos they think they may be doing something illegal? I know for a fact my support forum where my pay-for scripts are located, is not limited to anyone. People can go in, view what they like....and see if any of the available hacks will let the script expand, and do what they want it to do.

Cheers

Exactly. Get the license owner to add your email address into that form. Bear in mind that form is case sensitive.

As a matter of fact if you are going to install "vb hacks" to the client, this means you have PHPmyadmin access, Admin CP access and FTP access to your client's server. I'm sure a client who handed so much keys to you will not mind adding your email address to a form in vb.com so that you can read vb.org threads. ;)

well I'm in this business too and I can say nearly all commercial software that is open source like PHP and PERL scripts has such kind of self protection to keep illegal users away from at least support threads. Since you are in the business, I'm sure you'll understand that there is not much a PHP author who is trying to charge for his script can do to reduce illegal usage of his script. And this is a good and effective way to follow..

As a matter of fact....it was simply an addition to link in with the database. All I needed to know was which tables linked in with the 'users' one. I found out the hard way, after 2 days of errors and stumbling around in the dark.

The reason I couldn't get the key off my client, was simply because he was ona weeks holiday. There was absolutly no way of contacting him.

Is your client's forum here?

Doesn't seem to be working...

Thats because I just moved server. I'm still in the process of re-setting it up. I do have one...and it doesn't require registering to view certain forums. I also have a ticket system, where people who own my scripts can send me a direct priority email (via a form)....and I can then get back to them ASAP, or if I'm not there...then my partner can.
