I have some users on my board that create 10 user accounts and use them all to give points to eachother talk to eachother etc. I was wondering if there was a way to make it so that an IP may only register 1 account. I have email activation on but they just keep registering hotmail and Yahoo addrtesses and I dont want to ban those because we would lose alot of users.
Please help, thank you

Start banning members who do it. That'll send a message to people who keep trying it.

I do, but some people have dialup so it is harder to ban them without banning others as well.
Also it is hard to scan every user who joins, I just find the obvious ones

heh quite a predicament, i'm sure we've all seen some of those members around, you can always just stop new registrations, or put new members under moderation before you allow them member access to the boards

yeah but thats a real pain and it is not worth it.
I dont mean to sound rude, but I dont really want alternitaves. If someone can make this hack I would be very thankful

even with this hack you,ll get users on dial up connecting and disconnecting, not to mention in the uk bts asdl service is a dynamic ip aswell and that another even faster case of loggin on and off to achieve this annoyance

Rephrased: IP banning is inefficient.

So, your suggestion to overcome the problem is...

There isn't one. You just have to enforce the existing rules, not try to create new filters.

How about detecting multiple registeration per user via cookies?
For example, a hack could scan the users' PCs and look for ALL cookies from vb site he/she visiting then give the admin/mod an alarm that this guy has x number of nicknames.
I hope somone can clarify the possibility.

Well, 99.9% of users won't know about "Delete Cookies" trick + they won't know that the script is installed (you won't tell them right? :)). Even if they know that a script is installed and they know about "delete cookies" trick you have to trust the human error factor ;).
tatchy?!

Provided that you are 100% sure that these 2 or 3 or 4 or whatever number of nicknames belong to the same person.

You can't be more careful than this :)
I'm still looking for a "real" way to find multi-nicknames-twisted-personality humans :)

Forgot to ask, does this Tachty hunt multiple registerations? What exactly does it do?
An Update of the exisiting vB2.x.x Hack 'Who might this new User be' would do the job ;)
