View Full Version : Really Big Template Editor

filburt1

This hack makes the Edit Template/Add Template boxes much bigger than the default sizes. This is best for users with high resolutions (1152x864 or higher) who have the screen real estate that vB doesn't use.

wow, that's really a hard to installing hack :D

filburt1
03-20-2003, 10:01 PM
It took more time to open Notepad and type the instructions then take a screenshot than actually finding where to make the code edits :p

filburt1
03-20-2003, 10:07 PM
It makes the textareas for editing/adding templates much bigger than their default 25 rows by 50 columns.

i really understand why filburt cant guarantee to provide support for this hack.

it's quite complex and support is hard....

filburt1
03-20-2003, 10:20 PM
That's what's supposed to happen :p. Just change ,50,100 to lower dimensions to better fit your screen resolution.

help i cant see my templates

filburt1
03-20-2003, 10:44 PM
Then you didn't install it properly. It's impossible for this mod to not make templates show at all.

LMAO.
Nice idea.
This is probably one of the shortest instruction files I've seen yet.
Thx.

Dave.

PS: I probably wont install it so no point in clicking install.
But it's a nice idea.

Nicely done and thank you. It was a snap to install and really makes a big difference.

Interesting hack, filburt1. It's too big a hack so I gave up after reading the first 200 lines of instructions... ;)

Tech question:

How do we check the max resolution our monitor can go to?

Guys, I'm serious, stop crapping all over my thread. It may shock you that people might actually have questions about this hack.

Dean C
03-21-2003, 05:36 PM
Yes i agree - please stop using this thread as a basis for spamming or comments on how poor this hack is because it is so simple - some people (including myself) will find this useful...

Regards

- miSt

P.S - fiburt i got big errors when trying to set it to max resolution ;) Does a monitor usually come with documentation on its maximum supportable resolution?

- miSt

filburt1
03-21-2003, 05:40 PM
It's dependent on the video card and the monitor. Just set it higher and higher until it stops showing an image.

lol! This was a good idea. *clicks install* I find it very useful.

And seriously, don't post sarcastic calls for help. It makes it hard to tell who really needs it. I was confused when reading this thread. I then opened the "install file" and OMG. Easiest "hack" ever. But like filburt said, what is easy for one person may be more difficult for another.

I'm sure it did take some time to figure out what exactly to edit to change the size of the window too. Good job Filburt. This was very helpful. :)

One thing I noticed quickly is that you said this was for monitors with higher resolutions. For anyone who has a lower res, you can try decreasing the number of rows shows (50 by default in the install file). Try maybe 40, or 30. Until it all fits on your screen. ;)

EDIT: Whooaa, Filbert's avatar changed right as I posted this. Just thought I would point that out.

Filburt - i kept changing it and the image still showed yet when i changed the resolution to it it gave a big error message on my monitor saying that it was not supported... :(

Mist, give me the brand and model number and I will find what the highest resolution it supports.

find:

maketextareacode($template[title],"",$template[template],20,80);

replace with:

maketextareacode($template[title],"",$template[template],50,100);

Thanks for this SIMPLE yet effective hack.

TBH, running my monitor @1280 and having many non-vb pages via templates, I was getting frustrated by rather small editor. Now, I have maximised it to a perfect size, so it fills the screen. This makes my life so much easier.

Thanks again.

Will you release this hack for v3? :)
