View Full Version : Why Don't they have a free Vb?

How come they dont have a free vbulletin? I know that it is because they need money for domain reasons and that they want to pay the workers who work their time to make it. But this is why they compete with invision and phpbb and other forums. they have downloads of free boards but they're not licensed. so Why cant vb do that?
ehhh... o well..

If you want to use the other free boards, then no one is stopping you. By all means use them.
If you want a board that provides paid support and development, then use vB.

Obviously, Vbulletin is better than the free boards or people wouldn't keep asking vbulletin to be free - they would just use the free ones that are available.

Jelsoft is a company, and like any other company they need to make a profit to stay alive. If you don't want to pay the relatively small fee for vB then I suggest you use a free alternative like phpBB or InvisionBoard.

The do have "vBulletin Lite" if you want to try it out and see if it is worth the price and what you are looking for (which you will find out it is worth more than the price easily and more than you would ever hope to find with the other boards available).

vBulletin Lite is no longer released or supported - this has been the case for most of last year.

It was also pretty horrible and not a representation of what vB really was so you'd be better off using another free board.

Oops! I didn't know that. Thanks for setting me straight. I must have had my license longer than I thought. ;)

A good idea would be if Jelsoft had like a little version. Like a demp that the user could install. But it wouldnt give them access to download hacks or anything. And no other users could sign up. Just to get the user the feelin of the admin cp, ETC.

Jelsoft dropped the idea of vB Lite in favor of something far more useful: a test script that will right up front tell you if vB3 will install, and why not if it won't.

I wish I had a VB but I have to use Invision.Anyways I think the price is too high.Especially for non-profit organizations or just people that like to have their own forum like me.Anyways I luv VB but sadly I cant pay that.Heck I cant even pay because my mom thinks that they might steal the money or something.Either way I would have to pay it myself & I cant. Also guys is there some hacks or addons compatible with Invision here?

Nothing here is compatible with any other board.

I have a hobby web site, and I have been looking for some sponsors and people donations. After a short while I had things together and could purchase a license. I took a owned license, so I wouldn't have to consider about future costs no more.
It isn't that high. It is just .. how much is it worth, for what you need it for? If you don't have a high/heavy community, you could do with invision board or phpbb untill you are ready for the real raw power.

granted it doesn't provide the full features, but for whats enabled, it's more than enough.
I'm happy I bought my license.

You have 2 vB license, or just one? :) Because if you're running vB2 and vB3 at the same and providing public access to both, you need 2 licenses. Just to let you know.
