Just a thought regarding the ladder of status titles here. (Tyro Hacker, Hacker, Ultimate Hacker, etc.) I am not sure they are an accurate representation of abilities because they are based on posts.
I talk a lot, but I am not an ultimate hacker. I am a good debugger and an average hacker, but no ultimate hacker. And some of the people called hackers here make me ROFLMAO.
Could the titles be based on hacks released if you want to use degree of hacker ability for titles? Or could they be changed to something else if you want them based on posts? (Personally, I like the first idea best. A title based on number of hacks released would give some indication of coding ability).

Good point. Xenon and I will look into this.

I agree, Ultimate something but Hacker isn't the most appropriate thing to accompany 'Ultimate' for most people. (Most, some, you get the point ;))

@Amy: well, make it relating to hacks would mean, that we have to hack some files. Of course possible, but in regard of vb3 not such a good idea :) (maybe when we use vb3 :))
but yeah, erwin and me will look into that :)

Ultimate Spammer? ;)
Maybe have hacks released in the postbit and rethink the status tree.

We are reluctant to hack vB.org until we upgrade to vB3. For obvious reasons. :)

Hehe filbie, that'd work for me. ;)
Maybe have the rankings based on not the number of hacks released, but on the number of total people who have installed your hacks. That would be the best way. I was going to say have a voting system, but the "install" idea is better I think. That would be really cool. Obviously my rank would drop back down to Tyro :( but the idea is still cool :) lol

hmm, from what i can see, we can't make it relating to installs, because that would add to much queries.
a title relating to the number of hacks released wouldn't be as hard, just a small edit of getpostbit, so we will look into :)

And how do you decide how many hacks a person has to release to go up the ladder? If you take a person like Bane who released an excellent and very involved hack and take another person who has released a bunch of small and easy hacks, that wouldn't be fair to Bane or the other person. Doing rankings on the number of hacks released does not show the accurate hacking ability of anyone. That will be making it more of a contest than anything else.

Well there could be many objections to that method, so I'd say just re-name the titles that go by post count. That way, no more hacker and it'll be better off I guess?
Don't know what the best solution is here..

as said we will discuss about that, but i think it isn't highest priority right? ;)

Yup right, I'm sure people won't get the Hacker part confused after they've registered here. :)
I just found it nice that after 100 posts I suddenly became a hacker, even though I had done nothing but installed them at the time lol. Maybe add a new install system where you go into the users profile and theres a check box next to their hacks and you can "install" from there also? But it wouldn't really "install" the same way it does now, it would just add a vote for that member. Then there would be only one area to pull the number from.
Maybe make a secret system that nobody knows how it works... You can have two titles "Know how it works" and "Don't know how it works" That would be.... stupid. Nevermind :) lol

Or anyone who has released a hack is a "hacker" (with the exception of mods and admins). Those who haven't would be a "member" or something similar. Also, once the hack of the month starts going again, anybody who wins that bumps up to "award winning hacker" and stays there. It wouldn't be too hard.

Amy, that's a very good idea.
this way, there wouldn't be a contest between titles, and the title says also something about the quality :)
i'm sure we can find such a way easyly :)
Whoaa, somehow I have now become a super hacker. lol How many posts was that set to? Maybe I already was but just didn't notice.

That sounds like a neat idea to me too, amy. :)
Will you forget about the template mods though? :p
