Desktop Image Hack
What does this hack do? :)
It adds a place in your member profile for your desktop picture. You can submit your desktop picture at desktop.php so members, Can see your desktop picture in your profile. The picture will be resized at 339 x 250 pixels but if you click on it , it goes to The full size
It is a fun hack :classic:
Screenshots are in the next posts
Please be gentle it is my third hack

Would you really want people to upload 120-150 kb pics to your host? I myself have a host that can easily handle that, but not everyone has that luxery :)

If you could, please give me credit as for the idea. The coding of yours I can see isn't ripped from mine, so it's clearly YOUR hack, however I would like credit for the idea somewhere within your hack (preferably in the installation file or post).

Yes, what I was looking for. Thank you for the hack.
What will the look like if my user profile fields don't look like the demo? Or does this make it look like the demo? ( I want my user profiles to look like that demo)

The demo is my forum. The coloring and such is customized to mine.
Much work went into those works :) much to go still, never done, heh

cool hack, but it'll only be useful for me if my members were able to upload an attachment of their own. Most of them don't have a webserver to link off of, anyway. So I would like the idea of hosting the image for them.

I"m working on a simple mod to add the links to be easily accesible to change your image in your CP, as well as adding who's online locations for this too.
nothing big, but useful

Not sure why people would want to see other people's desktop images... (???) - however, I can see using this to let people post other types of pictures. My site deals with mountain biking, so perhaps pictures of their bikes or something like that.
Interesting though.
I can see if users are allowed to upload images directly it could cause storage problems - you'd have to be able to check image sizes and then would be getting into imagemagick types of issues..
I suppose a user could offer an anonymous ftp site to place the pictures then give directions on how to submit a link. Hmmm..

PSI- you may want to add these 2 things to the install file or first post. Please credit me though :) maybe with a link to me forums, hehe.
In user option templates > modifyprofile
find:
$customfields
add below:
tr>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780"><normalfont><b>Desktop Image:</b></normalfont></td>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780"><normalfont><a href="http://www.yourforumURL.com/desktop.php">Add/Change DeskImage</a></normalfont></td>
</tr>
In online.php find:
case 'gallery':
$userinfo[where] = "Viewing Picture <a href='gallery.php?s=$session[sessionhash]'>Gallery<a>";
break;
add below:
case 'desktopimage':
$userinfo[where] = "Adding/Changing <a href='desktop.php?s=$session[sessionhash]'>Desktop Image<a>";
break;
find:
case 'gallery.php':
$userinfo[activity] = 'gallery';
break;
add below:
case 'desktop.php':
$userinfo[activity] = 'desktopimage';
break;
works on my forums. Have fun!

You another cool and interactive idea is there is a free program that will take random screens of your desktop and then upload them to your webspace that would be cool in intergrate that idea into this hack. But that would take some really hard work to get done.
EchoHype.com
03-03-2003, 10:28 PM
random screens and upload them to your webspace......hmm......that'd be like a live webcam eh? but taking desk screenies.
I like that idea....maybe I"ll talk it over with my guys and may do it.
good idea serge!

for
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780"><normalfont><b>Desktop Image:</b></normalfont></td>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780"><normalfont><a href="http://www.yourforumURL.com/desktop.php">Add/Change DeskImage</a></normalfont></td>
</tr>
You can use
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780"><normalfont><b>Desktop Image:</b></normalfont></td>
<td bgcolor="#1C5780"><normalfont><a href="$bburl/desktop.php">Add/Change DeskImage</a></normalfont></td>
</tr>
or use remove the $bburl and leave it has desktop.php

well, it doesn't have to be desktop pictures, it can be naked pictures if you'd like.. there are no limits..
as for space.. well, most of don't have 100MB of webspace you know.... I have an entire 60GB drive to myself, as with most others with dedicated servers.

Is there a chance you could tell me how to also be able to use this on the fourmhome?
How about a option in the postbit or something that would show if the user has added his desktop for viewing.
Like:
Desktop Available or Desktop Not Available.

I asked the same thing about the Image In Profile hack by Zzed (another great hack tryin' to accomplish the same thing as this one is :)) and I think it merits the same thing here.
How would someone go about making a preview for this 'desktop image' in the usercp? [In a table like a signature preview or the subscribed threads, on the main usercp page.]
Keyser S?ze
09-18-2003, 12:10 AM
he means so ppl can upload the desktop pic, like in the sig hosting hack, or attachments
also what would be GREAT is if in the profile view, the desktop pic is small like in vb3 attachment views, and then u click it to see the bigass pic
that would be cool, dunno if imma install this one, ppl will complain too much "i aint got no where to host my pic " :(

Oh. <insert shwing here> Duuuh.
To answer my question previously a post or two above (if anyone else was interested), use: <IMG SRC="$bbuserinfo[fieldx]">, whereas 'x' is the field number of the profile http:// link the user inputs.
Man it's been one of those days. Sorry for the clutter.
