View Full Version : vbulletingraphics.org: are they allowed to distribute hacks?
<a href="http://www.vbulletingraphics.org/" target="_blank">http://www.vbulletingraphics.org/</a>
Let me know... They are in violation with vbHome (lite) copyright also, since they remove it.

They are in violation. I don't see anything I wrote there, but I'm not really in the mood to wade through French.

No, they are not allowed to, not without the permission of every single hack author, unless the hack author specifies that it is public domain. This is why we only allow licensed vB users to download hacks here.

First of all, sorry for my english.
They are in violation
this goes back to yesterday ... Now it is ok, copyright is on the footer. As you can see in the other templates there is always the copyright.
My opinion is not to be in violation, I want you to understand that.
I did not get the email response on registration.
I'm going to repare it...
go figure how great coders they are.
Many thanks for what you're saying... I encourage to do good job and give a support to french people on vbulletin...

So... I we have to ask every body, It will take several time... so there is two solutions :
- To alow only licensed VB users by installing the vbulletin registrering system with vbulletin login and pass.
- To delete vbulletin France community
..
I would apreciate if vbulletin hacker understand the situation, and give the authorisation to translate, if there aren't agree, the will email or pm me and I will delete the translation of his hack...

@corbu: i think, you should contact jelsoft because of your site.
I'm sure you'd be allowed to start the french vbulletin community, like vb-germany once does.
If you have that official statement, you can translate those hacks for sure as a part of the official vbulletin community, but as it is now, you are violating many copyrights, such as mine for example.
it's because of the security lack that even unlicensed users can download the hack i was forced to contact the piracy@vbulletin.com addy.
so as sai, contact them yourself, and try to get into the status of the officail french community and all would be well.

All the hacks in vbulletingraphics.org are translated.
So there is no problem for that.
Of course, I prefere to integrate vbulletin system on the vbulletin france forum (witch asking to entering customer number en password) but many times I was asking jelsoft for that.
Thanks for your response, I will contact jelsoft in the next hours.
PS : TECK : your account is now ready.

I ask for it to John for Spain and rejection, I had to open to the site without being official www.vbulletin-hispano.com to it

I would hope any hack on vb.org would automatically be copyrighted to the hack author. I didn't state that in my simple hacks but I thought it was standard policy. I, for one, do not want any hacks I have written or will write in the future on any other boards for download but vb.org.

our footer:
All hacks are copyright their respective owners
so you can force everyone to take away your hacks for download from their boards.
That's why corbu should ask John for becoming an official, otherwise, he has not other way as to close his site or asking every single author.....
That's not harsh by us, it's law.

Xenon is right. Unless you have specific permission from each author of the hacks then you are breaking the copyright laws. Also unless your site becomes an official Jelsoft enterprise i myself wouldn't allow any of my (useless) hacks to be released there.

Are you sure this is correct? Vbulletin doesn't own the copyrights to the hacks - the owners do. Vbulletin cannot give anybody the right to translate my work and redistribute it as far as I know.

I am failing to see why you think getting permission from John means he can distribute the copyrighted works of others. John doesn't own the copyrights - the hackers do. He's still going to need to either get the permission of every single hacker or encourage the hackers to start posting their work on his board.
Good point Amy. I suppose getting this support from John would mean that unlicensed users won't be able to download hacks from the french site, and then I see no problem with hacks from this forum being used there, however hacks ARE copyright to their creators, so yes, they'd need to get permission from each and every hacker too. However, if this french hacks site is going to be big, they could have some sort of affiliation with vB.org where hacks can be distributed freely there in their translated form...

I'm waiting for the response of jelsoft.
Also, I want to say that I want to respect work, and respect hacker's work. So if, it's forbidden, I will delete all posts.
I'm in the organisation to send PM to all the hackers of vbulletin.org to asking if they want to give the authorisation to vbulletinFrance to translate and share it on the French forum.
So I wish that jelsoft is agreee to help French community and allow us to take vbulletin system permission with customer number & password.

@amy: well yes and no.
depending of the lawgiving country.
My point is that when corbu becomes an official, no other users could get the hack.
he'll providing the translations to the frenchspeaking users, but they could download it here also because of the same license verification.
in the form now, also unlicensed ones can DL them, that's what disturbes me.
But anyways i'm not in the position to decide that, i'm an Mod, not a lawyer ;)
maybe we could add a checkbox, allow other vb-team officails to tranlate hacks or something like....

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't hacks contain code from vBulletin? All or some of the code, replace this with that, etc. So, as i see it, code is being redistributed without the approval of jelsoft.

Well they contain partial chunks of code but not one hack contains enough code to build a whole vbulletin file. Even if you spent hours analysing hacks released here i bet anyone they couldn't put together even ONE of the files.

I'm afraid you are not allowed to offer vBulletin hacks as downloads without the explicit permission of the individual hack owners. You can contact Jelsoft to discuss the possibility of becoming an official foreign-language Jelsoft site but that won't give you the right to offer hacks for download.
You are welcome to contact the owner of this site, Chen (chen.avinadav@vbulletin.com) to discuss offering foreign translations of hacks, but he won't be able to allow you to do this without the explicit permissions of all the hack authors.
I'm going to close this thread as this issue needs to be discussed in private.
