View Full Version : New way of handling vbcode when posting

On many newer brands of forum software, there is a way in which the "bbcode" is handled, which many of my users (myself included) find extremely useful.

When typing something, the user may highlight and then press a vbcode button in order to add the vbcode to the selected text.
I have foudn the hack that allowed the vbcode to be placed where the cursor is, and that is far better than the default, but it is still kind of clunky. So combing both methods would be very optimal.

If there is already a hack which does this, I am sorry I did look. But concider this my request for a function such as I have described.
If someone wants to see some forums that do this, you can try IPB and mercuryboard (both of which are fine for what they are, but obviously I am not using them for a reason). I also believe phpBB does it this way as well.

hmm, i think there is already a hack for it, but don't know for sure...

i just know vb3 does that.

vB3 does MORE than that. vB3 is a wysiwyg editor when you post. I am not asking for THAT.

All I am asking for is that when you highlight a part of your message and press a vbcode button, the vbcode would encircle it. :)

also with disabled WYSIWYG vb does that :P

but i'm sure the hack exists here, it's installed on vb.org or has that behaviour changed?
(i just use quick reply anymore ^^)

That's in normal standard vB. No hacks needed. Just make sure the "Enhanced" option is ticked when posting.

First of all, I think I may not be clarifying myself enough.
The default handling of vB without hacks is poretty sad if you ask me. It will not even place the vbcode where the cursor is without a hack. It appends it to the end of the typed message.

Try it. Try replying or posting a new message, and when typing (in normal OR enhanced) try highlighting the text you want to wrap in vbcode. Then press the button.

What you get in normal mode is a replacement. What you get in enhanced is the first half of the vbcode appended to your message, and not even NEAR the highlighted text.

Come to think of it, it just appends the vbcode in both enhanced and normal. :(
