View Full Version : Only show "admin functions" to moderators.

I was visiting another forum today where I'm just a registered user and saw the "admin functions" listed at the bottom of the page.
Well, of course I had to try one and I was told "you don't have permissions". In my mind it's not nice to show something to someone, then tell them they can't use it. I checked over the vbulletin.com website and they told me it was an oversight in V2 versions (that admin functions display to nearly everyone)... at least in my case they do, because I let people delete their own posts and in showthread.php that qualifies then to get the 'admin functions' at the bottom of the threads page.
In any event... here's a very simple hack that only exposes the "admin functions" to moderators.
see directions in attached file.

This is an alright hack.. It does tease people when they see that. Lol
Please stick the directions in a attached .txt file so warez users cant view the directions :)

In my mind it's not nice to show something to someone, then tell them they can't use it.
But.. what if the admin drop down list encourages new registrants to continue to post more and more and try hard to become a moderator so one day he can use those incredibly awesome modding features? Of those members, one might raise his fame so greatly to secondary administrator, then he will prove himself a great webmaster and create a incredibly innovative community site on his own that would soon transition into a large highly successful e-commerce site that sells incredibly useful products that eventually renders the company to be one of the greatest on the face of the planet, overpowering even Microsoft and forcing Bill Gates to retreat to one of his secret Caribbean Islands as his company becomes monopolized by this enormous business, and while all this is taking place the person has given you position as vice president and you live the rest of your life in luxury.
As microscopically feasible as this might seem, it?s still a possibility, right? RIGHT?? No.. I?m probably wrong.. always wrong.. once again.... =sighs=
Oh well, la de da di da..

good points...but I can tell within a few posts if someone is "moderator" material and I have people contacting me everyday requesting to be moderators....no need to entice more to take up my time.
