Let me start off, I am a web designer and I have run into a question about adding download support several times with my clients, and am currently developing a file system myself. I will probably post the preliminary alpha in the next week or so. Having Said This, I am requesting that anyone with an idea of what feature they want respond with what they would like to see in the finished version, right now the current planned offering will be as such:
1. Files stored in SQL or in a Directory (not neccessarily in the website directory.)
2. Administration via the Admin Cpanel (this includes uploading files, creating and removing categories and it's files, etc)
3. Uploads via the file display page.
4. Restrictions via user level.
5. In the future it will include support threads however I do not forsee that in the first releases.

Unfortunatley due to time restrictions I only forsee this as running on *nix systems.

Please respond to this thread or contact me directly at nKrypteD1@direcway.com for your feature requests and idea's.

Last but not least I must give credit to shackrat he gave me this idea via an old vbportal module called sdownload which I have used on a few sites.

you moved your thread.. anyway..

1. files stored in a directory.. only thing in SQL should be a downloadID and a reference to the DL and which catagory it's in..

2 and 3. would like to see a bit of both.. users allowed to upload.. but uploads are moderated (added or deleted).. but want the ability to add catagories and deleting files and such from within the admin CP.. also moving files to different directories if that is possible from within the admin CP.. else i guess the DL's would have to be stored in the DB..

4. definate yes!!

can't wait to see it in action.. because i only have a production based forum, i can't test this for you.. but i can do user based testing if you need that.. very much looking forward to this though!!
