I have one problem with this....it sounds like a great mod, but i can't get it to install.
The problem i'm having which i assume is a timing out issue, is when I run the botloader.php from the url, it starts going through the steps and it'll get SO far then it will say "Done" at the bottom (internet explorer) and that's it....
If i press refresh, it'll start all over again, but it still gets stuck.

Hrm
Installed ok....
When I post a new thread, it just sits there processing it, then eventually comes up with Page cannot be displayed
If I hit refresh it posts the message.
When the bot does reply, it's ALLWAYS with a smiley.

I ran the install file again and it went through ok...

Edit Fixed it, I just had put the code in the wrong spot in Newreply.php all is well now

1. How do I get it so that he says his name is what I named the user? Instead of him saying Program E.

I get this error after I use botloader.php.. it runs all the files perfectly and then boom at the end

I got those errors too, but continued and he seems to work fine. Other than the fact that he's dumber than a brick.

Question:
If I want to add more aiml files I find around the net do I simply place them in the alice/aiml folder and run alice/src/admin/botload.php and let it run through the new aiml files? Is that all it takes? If there is something more invovled can somebody please help me?

I'm not impressed with his replies. Some are decent, but they seem almost intelligent just out of luck. Most of the time he doesn't seem that smart.

I was thinking about installing this, but someone told me it can mess with your board. If that is so, can someone edit it? Because I have a large community and for some bot to ++++ing with things isn't cool.

i got it to work now, make sure you didnt make any typos like i did :D

Now im having another problem, the bot replies to new threads but not replies to posts... what could this be? Im going to recheck the newreply.php now!

Well, I get this error when replying to a thread -

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare gottb() (previously declared in /home/cyricx/public_html/forums/tomstalkerbot.php:21) in /home/cyricx/public_html/forums/tomstalkerbot.php on line 20

However if I hit the back button, then refresh, my reply is there and the bots replies =/

Any ideas?

O it also replies twice if that's any hint to where the problem might be :(

ahh okay, had the code repeated twice in the newreply, got that fixed.

Also someone asked about it using smilies they don't have. In the tomstalkerbot.php find:

function gottb() {
global $message, $DB_site,$ttb_memberid, $ttb_username, $threadid, $visible, $foruminfo, $ttb_alicelocation, $bbuserinfo;
$emot = array(
in that emot = array change those smilie codes to one for your site :)

Only problem I have left is it isn't parsing the smilies in the posts. It's showing the code likes :louts: instead of the smilie. =/

Any ideas?

So like, all my bot does is reply with smilies also.

I've installed the brain several times and used keywords that the AIML files have but I still get a smilie reply.

What gives?

It'd be nice if it at least gave me some keyword responce.

make a note of the users id number has its needed for the config of the bot.

The BOT ID # is the ID # of the user you created, you can easily find that in your USER table in your database.

for example, I called mine Heather, and when I look at the mysql database for my forums, the ID is next to the username

You should be able to view your database via PHPmyAdmin then BROWSE your user table.

At least, that's how I did :)

Is your bot only replying with smilies like my bot is?

Or are you getting a time-out when you try loading the AIML files? Although the instructions say to use botloaderinc.php if your files time out using botloader.php; it hasn't worked for me.

Also, some servers (like mine) won't allow you to have the admin directory CHMOD'ed to 777 which looks to be an important step.

I've been trying to get this to work for weeks now, and am only now giving up and asking for help :)

For those who don't know about this, if your XML is a component of php, you need to add dl ('xml.so'); in the beginning of the botloader.php file (after the <?)

That loads up XML for those who have XML as a component and not compiled with php.

Does the ADMIN directory NEED to be 777? Because my server won't allow that, only up to 755.

If I run the script as it is, it stops halfway through running the AIML files.

Is there anyway to insert this information manually into the database?

Which table is it in? BOT or BOTS?

this should have a warning about the server load

i reinstalled this and within 3 hours when 50 people where talking to him my load went above 10 :(

it is without a doubt a gr8 hack but i think maybe it might need rethinking :(

not insulting just saying if you install this your server will feel the pressure

The encouraged method of specifying which arguments should be passed by reference is in the function declaration. You're encouraged to try and turn this option Off and make sure your scripts work properly with it in order to ensure they will work with future versions of the language (you will receive a warning each time you use this feature, and the argument will be passed by value instead of by reference).

using this on a onlder version of php works fine however on a new version it doesn't...

Would this be the reason why it stops after 5 minutes when I run the Botloader?

I figured it was XML, I got PHP 4.x

I'm guessing that's considered a new version of php. Hmm..

Welp, I've given up on this mod and since deleted the test forum and the file from my computer :)

I am not sure if that is the reason but i know after upgrading to PHP 4.3.3 it no longer worked.. PHP manual also states that a cal time pass referance ha been deprecated and it will no longer be avaialble in future versions.. so unless this bot is updated to not use call time pass referece then it will be useless.. although it can be turned on in the current version 4.3.3. it would be pointless as it will not be available in future versions anyway..

I just installed this hack and it took me about 2 days to totaly figure out but I did it! The run was long but I finished the race. When I first started I couldn't get the botloader.php thingy to work, but I 777 every file and folder in alice and it worked like a charm. Then I couldn't figure out how to change the bots name and stuff, but xSaintDog helped me learn how to do that last night and all is great! :) So thanks for the help everyone who has helped, and thanks for creating this great hack.

I've managed to install it and finally get it to work flawlessly. But I don't know where to put the include "tomstalkerbot.php"; in the newthread and newreply.

Anyone got any ideas? I don't know much about php but it looks like it should be a simple translation of having the newthread/newreply php file call on the tomstalkerbot file after someone replies...

I just dunno where that spot is :mad:

Well I've just spent ages reading through the first 30 pages of this. I got board so I'm running an install on by 3.0.0 b 7 board. Hopefully it will work as the files that needed modding couldn't be done as they are not the same as they were in vB 2.

Can anybody at all help me? I've seen this in action before and it's something that really can be funny especially for those times when you are online and theres no-one else about (bit like this thread :()

I've seen people post the same problem in here then instead of saying what they did to fix it they just come back and said 'OK now problem fixed'

Someone has to know about this. Otherwise it's the delete button when I have my monthly clearout tonight.

anyway I installed this one and with the addition of the AIML files from alicebot.org that little bugger owns 60 % of my members ;)

Hmm, I can't get this to work in VB2.3.2
I modified all the files etc, uploaded em all, ran the installer, it said it installed all the stuff in the database aok, but it doesn't reply to any threads.
One bit about the instructions confused me, was this....

Login to phpmyadmin and check in the 'bots' table that the bot id is 0
you find that the table 'bot's the id number in there needs editing to 0 from 1 in some cases
When I goto the bots table, I don't know what to do from there?

LOL A month later after looking at my post above, I finally see the error that I made. Oh well. I have to start over since I deleted Alice from the server shortly after. Wish I could have seen the obvious mistake before I deleted it though.

sorry for my lack of reply but i did make it clear that i was unable to support this hack but i try my best to help with the parts we made but almost all the errors reported here are to do with the bot files.

Also...the Bot just randomly stops talking. After answering 4 or 5 of your questions it just won't say anything else unless you start a new thread.

I did the CHMOS 777 on everything and it still did not work.
I also read this 55 page thread and got nowhere.
It seems that when most people had a problem, they would post what the problem was.
Lated they would just post that they fixed it with out telling what they did to correct it.
(not a complaint just an observation)

C.Birch did a good Tombot-install but it leaves alot of information out.

Those are you MySQL database info fields.
So host is the mysql server address, uname is the database username, password is self-explanatory and databasename is the database where the bot withdraws it's words, for me I used "bot".

Basically everything else is the same as for vbulletin except the database name, but I think you can install the bot under vbulletin database too.

Quest...I don't know that C. Birch left alot of info out...I think you just aren't understanding them correctly. You don't create any new databases...you run the .SQL file in your current database and it creates all the new tables that are required...then you make the file mod's that you are told to do. And as far as the database fields:

$DB_HOST="localhost"; <---- leave this like it is...99% of the time it's fine
$DB_UNAME="username"; <---- This is your database username...it has nothing to do with any username of your boards....it was specified when you created the database for your boards
$DB_PWORD="password"; <---- Same as above...
$DB_DB="datebasename"; <---- Name of the database that vB is installed

OK first off, I want to thank you guys for taking the time out and helping me with this!

This is where I am at with it;

$DB_HOST="localhost"; <---- Left this alone.
$DB_UNAME="********"; <---- I put my User name I used when I set up the database.
$DB_PWORD="password"; <---- Left this alone
$DB_DB="***********"; <---- Placed my Database's name here

This eliminated the first access errors:

Check what your config.php settings are for vbulletin in the admin directory, then just fill the info from them.

I did that and I still get this error.
Does anyone know what file or directory it is looking for?

I am still working on it and have made some progress.
I have found that I needed to remove the http:// in the ?$rootdir="../../aiml/";? line of /alice/src/admin/dbprefs.php

Now this is the error I am getting?

Before anyone says it, I already CHMOD 777 every single file and directory.
Could someone please help with this.
