How do i show the Newest Threads?

i want to show the newest threads on the main page of my forum.....how would i do this?

eva's link shows how to list "active topics" on a non-VB page...

i want to add this to my "forum home" template
so it will be on my main VB page

?

I think there are some threads around about calling php from the templates

i can't find them
