Hey guys!

I'm so excited! With the coding expertise of one of our own from here...I've been able to launch a new look to my site, integrating the vb into my index page of the domain.

Since I have a women's health website, I don't usually share about my site but I'm so happy with the outcome, I wanted you all to see.

The main index page of the domain is within my templates.

I have a "good discussion" ability to pull a thread (based on thread ID, editable, replies to display, customizable title) to the main domain page. This isn't always based on "most replies" but on content so I wanted to be able to choose weekly.

I have a "news box" where I can add text to my template for current events if any. Nothing to say, I can make it not appear within my templates.

I have some info that shows up for non-members, guests, on how to use the website. Once they log-in, the page is different, with member news ...about our voluntary subscription program for added benefits to the member. (Log in, control panel, etc)

I have latest 10 posts from two of our busiest forums...

All of this is editable and alterable through my templates in VB.

Want to see? (Remember, this is a women's site... ;) Please visit nicely, carefully. :D

Thanks Logician for your awesome work! ;)

Very nice site :)

Serves its purpose very well but the page loads quite slow for me all round the site on 56k :)

You should post threads like this in the "Forum Commenting" forum in future though ;)

Btw may i ask who helped you (i think i know already ;))

I mentioned his name in the first post... :D

Thanks! I didn't realize that there is a commenting forum. I'll look for that. :)

He's not only kind and polite, he's brilliant with his coding, thorough with his projects. I'm very impressed. Thanks for the Kudos. I'm very happy with my new page. :D

Kathy, I've looked at the hack for this and it looks good. But how hard was it to put this together? I guess I'm still a little confused as to how it all works. :)

This is several hacks, all administrated through the templates of the vb control panel.

The main page has several tables, all labeled for "user" or "guest" in the templates. I can change out text, using html and depending on if a member is logged in or not, they see different helpful info. The other hacks (latest posts, member control panel, log in, etc) are organized within the main page but available for altering via templates.

Additionally, the "important discussion" thread hack (like news hack) is selected and a template changed for threadID, customtitle, how many replies we have room within the table,.....all changeable within the templates of the vb.

So I can control the content and the look of my main page from the templates (I think its called Webtemplates). It was completely customized for what I needed and for what look I wanted to achieve based on our topic, current header, logo and all.

I didn't do this coding work. I am php-challenged. Although I have implemented a few of the smaller hacks myself, my vb has had the pleasure of being hacked by the best vb coders..... The vb has features (additional calendar dates for surgery dates and special usergroups) that only could happen with the able brains of the best.

I hire the work done. ;)

It looks great, too. ;)

How do you get it to show up in the root of your site, though? That is the part I am confused about.

Site loads nice and fast on my 600k (sorry, just had to say it)

Good ol' Logician does a great job once again, he's helped me out with loads of code modifications over time too :)

Very nice homepage!
May i ask how (what hacks) did you implement the articles and the registration? The latter one seem very personalised as you have tons of options and questions.

Thankyou!

Registration is an additional hack we added later. I needed more "survey-like" questions from the members for the support they receive so I made a few of them mandatory and the rest are optional. Most members answer them all during registration or they go back later (link in their user control panel) to answer them.

I'm unsure about the article hacks except those are private forums that are using a different interface to show up as they do...without showing postbit, replies, etc.

Again, Logician is the magician. ;)

thank you for the reply :)
Could you tell me what hack did you use for registration?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if its a hack that is available here. Logician wrote it specifically for my site and is proprietary. I'm still using VB2 and he hasn't had a chance with the latest version to upgrade all the hacks for VB3. ;)

oh okie. I'm using Vb2 too. Maybe he can tell us if this is custom or if there is a hack available. :)

I was hoping he would help me with his article system that vBAdminZone uses. We were going to get together last weekend, but it never happend. Looks like he has done an excellent job though :) BTW, site loads fast for me too. Few images = fast.
