"Hot Topic" of the day on the HOME PAGE

Hi,

Is there a simple PHP script that I can plug in to my home page that will automatically show what the hot topic of the day in my forums is and then link the topic?

I am trying to drive more users to my forums and just want a simple PHP script to do this. Hell, it doesn't even have to be the hot topic. ANY topic that is being discussed at the time would be great.

Anyone know of any scripts for that without having to hack vBulletin?

Do I have to hack vBulletin? I just want someone to pull the info from MySQL and automatically update my home page.
