What hack allows you to click on the Number of replies for a thread and you get a pop-up window displaying the user names that have replied and the number of replies they made to that thread? (just like this board)

That's not a hack. That's a standard feature.

Hmmm...I never had to activate anything as far as I can recall. Have you tried reverting your forumdisplay templates?

In particular try reverting forumdisplay and forumdisplay_threadslist.
