Posting this here see if anyone else has had the problem as we have and know how to fix it or why its happening.

Problem: some images do not load when browsing forums or take a LONG time to load. It happens at random and often closing the browser and restarting it helps but after a while of browsing it happens again.

I thought this was a network issue and not a vb or server issue but I have contacted my host and verified that everything is fine on that end. Still I thought maybe its a network issue ... the net congested or something

The only reason I am posting here, is because I have 3 boards on 2 different hosting companies, each on their own server and its happening on all of them. I have also talked to other board owners and at least 3 other boards are having this same problem and they all use VB so I thought I would post and see if anyone knows if it could be a vb issue. I mean its the only thing that they all have in commong :-s

Could vb possibly look into this? My 3 board all use 2.2.8

Any insight would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Kit

It's obviously not a vB issue because it's not happening to other forums. I run a large vB forum and it loads up fine. Chances are your forums have outgrown your current hosts, and it's time to look for a semi-dedicated or dedicated server.

I am regularly having this problem on all the vB forums I visit, the images that seem to fail to load the most are the new/no new post indicators for the forums, the goto new post and goto last post icons.

I have a feeling its somthing to do with XP SP1, as it olnt started happening after I installed that.

I am pretty sure its not my host as some of these forums I run are fairly new and thus couldn't have outgrown their host. Also I use 2 different hosts for them and have plenty of space and bandwidth and all fo that. This is also happening to me on a windows 2000 machine, so not sure about the XP issue either :-s And its not just on my board, other vbs I go to seem to have it too :-s

Windows XP has a stupid feature that caches your browsers setting - make sure you disable it as it.

Like I said, the forums I visit as well as my own are all fairly image-intensive and they load up fine. Some hosts may not be optmized for PHP/ MySQL forums.

Where exactly is this setting? I've had a look and haven't found anything that resembles this that makes a difference.

I can't tell you exactly because I don't use Windows XP, but this happened to a member of my forums - she kept getting cached versions of pages on my forums - eg. she would make a post but it won't show up.

We found out that Windows XP kept changing her "Check for new pages" in Internet Options to "Never". In the end, she traced it back to the new feature of XP to make a backup of your Windows setting, and restore the backup every couple of hours. Which is annoying if you have made any setting changes. :)
