Seems like a simple enough request. I have some guys who are emailing serial numbers and other stuff which I consider innappropriate use of my board. I have been using phpMyAdmin but it is a hassle to follow the messages.

Basically, when someone sends a PM, I would like to be copied via email (like the new post notification) with the following info:

The senders screen name
The recipients screen name
The Subject
The entire body of the message

Your help is greatly appreciated!

That would fill your email inbox up in no time. :) If you have a busy site, potentially hundreds of PMs are sent a day - you want all of them to be copied and sent as an email to you?

Also, this could be a breach of your member's privacy as well - after all, PMs are called "private messages" for a reason.

Remember, if a member is doing something illegal using PMs, you have no control over it, and you should not be liable, unless you find out about it, and then you have a duty to stop this person as best you can.

There is a hack that allows you to read the PMs of individual members - I personally do not feel it is ethically correct, but you can install that if you wish.

yep if this sort of hack was ever released people would stop using pms but yep u have a point about people sending serials though pms etc but first thing how do you know this ?

If its been bought to your attention then you can act on that user alone but monitoring the whole board goes against the grain.

They will get the sense that big brother is watching them and lets not forget not all Admins are honest ones and will use info in private messages to their advantage.

I really hope this hack is never made.

Each person is entitled to their privacy on the net and an admin should only be able to act on that infomation which has been placed before him.

Point taken.

Unfortunately, in my case, I have a few users who are potentially going to get me in even bigger trouble that just "spying" on my own users. They have already hacked another web site and are now gloating over it on web site, mostly in PM's. In addition, from viewing my logs (IIS, firewalls, etc.) I can see they are making attempts to hack my web server as well!!! I am NOT happy.

That is my situation.

If you can help, great, maybe privately or whatever. If not, well, I understand your position as well, so no offense is taken. :)

Well, a hack which shows PM to Admins is written by PPN, look into his profile to find it...

from your point of view i can totally understand but imangine the power an admin would have if he got a copy of every pm sent on the board.I know Admins should be trust worthy and all and look out for their boards and members but most would abuse it.

As Xenon suggested their is a pm hack on here for admins and using this you can view users pms from the admin CP.

This would serve you well as at moment you already have your supicions so this way you could bring yo their info in the admin CP and read all their PMS - then if any offending info was found then you could act on it.

Okay, I installed that and it works fine.

No conclusive evidence, as the one person who sent something useful seems to have cleared out their box. :(

However, there is mention that someone is consider hacking my site. Guess it's time to put together some new code that browses firewall logs and blocks IP's... sheesh.

Thanks very much guys, I really appreciate the leads.
