Forward a post to another member, via PM!
2.2.x | by Velocd

This hack, as well all my other vB2 hacks, I no longer provide support for (being I run vB3 and it's too much hassel to debug vB2). When vB3 Release Candidate comes out, by request I might convert some of my hacks.

Template edits: 1 (postbit)
New templates: 3 (forwardpost, priv_forwardpost, redirect_postforward)
New files: 2 (forwardpost.php, forwardpost.gif)

What is it?
Well, it's been since summer when I released a hack, and today I decided it was long enough.

This hack will allow you to quickly forward a post within a thread to another member via PM, by just filling in some quick fields (such as the username, and PM subject).

I've been wanting to do this hack for some time, as I'm such a lazy person when it comes to using PM to notify members of certain posts. This hack helps a bunch, believe me ;)

Screenshots? Demo?
No demo, but you can find a screenshots in the next post.

Instructions?
See install.txt, inside the zip.

If you use this hack, please remember to click install! :p
Suggestions and comments are always welcomed.

I have one suggestion myself, for vBulletin.org to install this hack!
Or even a variation of it ;)

Velocd

It should work on all versions of 2.2.x ;)

Anyway we can flex this in such a way, that when I click on user's PM in a post, the post url will be quoted in the PM?

I know I am being a little picky but worth asking since I've been looking for that forever.

Great stuff nevertheless. :)

Velocd!
Nice to see you active again and great work done here!
I like the idea and I am thinking, is it possible for a follow up version (or some addon) to let the admin (through acp) set to allow forward to everybody, or only to buddy's? And when it is set to only buddy's, maybe make a drop down list of the buddylist to avoid typo's, etc. Would be great! I understand though, if you don't want to expand it like that :) Just thinking outloud here!

Hi, great hack. I'm just wondering if I did something wrong, or is this normal? When I tested it, it didn't come back as a clickable link...

Make sure your "priv_forwardpost" template contains :

This user would like you to check out the following post:
$bburl/showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&postid=$postid#post$postid

If it does, make sure your vBulletin Options have your Board Url as "http://" on the front...

Sure, it sounds possible. ;)
I'll see what I can do about an updated version maybe in the next few days.

It does yes...

I would like to know :

If I added ",anotherusername" after the first username, would it send to multiple users?

No, but I could also implement that function Hellsatan. The only thing this hack could produce is spam. Say, for example, on your forum you have a advertisement section, where people can post threads about their website. Well, they could just send a PM through this hack to every member about that thread.

Although I might also think about an option via the User CP to not recieve forwarded posts...I'm not sure. Any suggestions you think would work good, let me know. ;)

Yeh...

Or perhaps put a limit of 3 users to Forward it to, as well as an option in their "Options" screen not to recieve forwarded posts...

Or better still - They could have a third option on it, like with IP address in the Admin CP - They can select :

Yes
Only from buddies
No

:)

That could be cool:)

@The Spam thing - Luckily, I have the "Warnings Level Hack" by g-force installed, so my Mods could handle it once they recieved the message:)

I like the idea of a User cp option, i sure wouldent want all the forwarded post to fill up my pm box while i was away or soemthing. I think anthor good idea would be having it truned on or off per forum, that way if you had a Advertisement forum you could trun it off in there so no one could spam your members. That would also be good for private forums.

Also, folks,

I tried to have the reciepient the default $username. But obviously my coding is not up to snuff.

Anyone have any ideas how this would be done? A straight:

<tr>
<td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}">
<normalfont><b>Recipient:</b></normalfont><br><smallfont>Enter a valid username of the person who shall recieve this.</smallfont></td>
<td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}"><input type="text" size="25" maxlength="15" name=($username)></td>
</tr>

Just doesn't crack it. :(

Nice Hack!

I've upgraded it to include an "Alert Moderators" checkbox. I hate how the normal Alert system works by sending emails out. Now when people Alert the Mods through this system, it writes a post into a thread in the mod/admin room.

Other than that, I've added more post checking so that it retrieves the username and post title from the post table instead of relying on the name to be passed via the link.

hallo olli, Dein Übersetzter Text hat einen kleinen Fehler in der Url.

Es muß so heißen:

Dieser User möchte Dich auf das folgende post hinweisen:
$bburl/showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&postid=$postid#post$postid

anstatt so:
Dieser User möchte Dich auf das folgende post hinweisen:
$bburl=/showthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&postid=$postid#post$postid

habs mal gefixt und hänge es wieder dran
