View Full Version : Integrating chat with Vbulletin?
How would you go about integrating the vbulletin cookies into a chat room? I'd like to have one on my new boards, where members would be automatically recognized in the chat room with their user names, or be required to log in (I'd love to be able to keep nonmembers out). There is a nice chat hack like this for UBB that I used to use with HearMe Voice Chat, and I'd love to use the same room with vBulletin.
Has anyone done this? I'm sure it's fairly easy- I'll play around with it later this week, but hoping to save myself some time if someone else has already done it.
Thanks,
TigerLily:)
There is a hack for HearMe... Just do a search on it. There have also been integrations with PHPMyChat and others.
I would be very interested in using a hack like this as well.
I currently use JPilot IRC Chat Client. I like it because it is updated in real time and doesn't have to refresh itself every x seconds.
I see that Freddie uses a phpMyChat on his site. But I noticed that it automatically refreshes every few seconds.
Does anyoune else have any ideas?

Thanks everyone! I found the thread, but unfortunately, I can't seem to download the hack- the entire site it's at comes up as "unable to load". I emailed the author of it, hopefully I'll be able to get a hold of it. Thanks for all of your help!
TigerLily:)
Well, I wrote to the author of that hack, but their email address is bouncing. Does anyone have a copy of this hack?
Thanks,
TigerLily:)
send me your email address and I'll upload the hack to you!
Where can I get HearMe? Is it already uploaded, another hack, additional software? Thanks. BTW, I am a newbie if you can't tell :)
Thanks, Conan! I just emailed you.
Klark- HearMe Chat is a great plug in that lets you add voice and text chat to your pages. I used it when I had UBB and my members loved it. You need to go to http://www.hearme.com to sign up (it's free) and you'll be emailed some code to put into an html page. With the HearMe hacks for Vbulletin (and UBB), you can plug into the list of forum members, so if they enter the chat room, their cookie is recognized and show up under their member names. That's what I was looking for- the HearMe hack for vBulletin. I can't wait to get it up!
It's a fun addition and very versatile. I've had business meetings in my HearMe chat rooms, and sometimes talked to friends long distance that would cost a fortune to call all the time. Great program!

I sent you an email with the hack attached!
would you be so kind as to send that to me too, conan! It would be most appreciasted!
Thanks, Conan! I got it up and running this morning with no problems. One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to customize the page the chat room is embedded on. Will have to go read the post for this hack again. Thanks so much for sending it- my forum members thank you too!
TigerLily:)
It's kinda of a pain, because the hack uses a template called standar_error, which is also a function, so you can't really change it, what you can do it follow the instructions I posted here a while back:
http://vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3537
PS. if anyone else still need the hack, email me, and I'll send it to you!
Thanks, Conan! That worked perfectly! What a wonderful community there is here at vBulletin! Everyone is so helpful and willing to share! Thanks a million!
TigerLily:)
Can someone send this hack to me at zj2307@yahoo.com
thanks - the uploaded one doesnt appear to be there anymore
I'm working on a chat hack as well
http://edevboards.com/chat.php?page=index
Guests might see the page as a bit messed up... I'm working on that too :)
It works with a webmaster.com service and it's IRC. It would be very easy to set the username as login name but I haven't got around doing it yet. All it does now is take the header and footer as well as the fivelinks and it will display you as online while chatting.
