First off let me say that i have a relatively small amount of PHP experience, but i do have a rather vast knowledge of Perl ('twas my first love ;)) so while i could have done this with a ubb,... i cant really with vB. That being said, im quite glad i have a vB, because quite frankly its better in every way, so im just going to have to adapt. I'm also relatively new to MySQL, seeing as ive only worked with it 5 or 6 times.
At any rate, i have one of the most llama infested boards i have *ever* seen, because we keep a mantra of No Censorship. While this is mostly good, it also causes some interesting problems, like if i was to remove someones post that merely contained 'spam' (the word, not spam..just 'spam'), i will quite literally get flamed for laying false claim to no censorship. This is obviously not a desired effect, but 99% of our community can excersise some common sence, and limit their 'free speech' to certain 4 letter words. Its the 1% that cant control themselves i have a problem with. However that isnt cause to change a policy that has worked very well for over a year.
Basically what i'm after is a modification that will allow me to select users, and restrict them to posting real content. What i mean by that is, if their post contains less then say, 10 words, they will get an error message. My problem is that i dont want this to apply to all users, since we occasionally have things like votes, where people would just say 'i agree', etc. (and im not really worried about not allowing said llamas to vote. ;))
So, can i use a setting in the users data to see if they can post >10 word messages?
Also, if anyone could tell me how to add a user to everyones ignore list (i think this would be a decent way to get rid of people, if they dont get 'reactions' then they'll go away, maybe). I wouldnt mind hearing some opinions on that idea, though, as well.
