hello again chen,
i just noticed that your announcement (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/announcement.php?s=&forumid=4) made by you a while ago in full releases had the author changed (xenon).
i hope you dont have any wierd ideas in your mind and quit us all, here at VB.org.

you've been a tremendous help for me and also anyone here (i'm sure they all agree) and i personally think this board will be empty without you.
let me know if you are here or you plan on leaving...

I've been talking to Chen on ICQ a lot lately, and our conversations have turned a different leaf in the last couple days.

He's shared with me about his concerns for the vBulletin community, and that he doesn't think he belongs here anymore. Possibly even leaving all together and handing vB.org to someone else, so that it will be managed better. Someone that is able to commit his 100% time to vB.org.

I'm not sure if this will actually happen or not, but I wanted to share his concerns as well as mine.

Chen is a good friend of mine, and I'd hate to see this happen!! :( :( :(

Which does he more prefer: Chen or Firefly?

Anyway, I haven't seen him post in awhile at the full release area, or release a hack, but as you say he's having family issues.

Either that...or preparing some huge massively insane cool hack that will blow us all away :p

umm... if Firefly doesn't belong here anymore then who does? His efforts in the past have led to the greatness of vb.org... I mean i wouldn't really be here now if hackers like him... Xenon... Logician... and Nakkid hadn't influenced me so much... im really sorry to hear Firefly... but if thats your decision that i guess good luck in the future... don't really know what else to say... thanks for making the vb.org community as great as it is :)

He's gone. Chen got a job in China washing dishes for a Hyatt Regency Hotel chain. They say he is the best dish washer ever to gain the job there. Sorry folks, it's all bubbles and rolled up sleeves for Chen now.

Its stupid mindless comments like this that make people feel unwelcome and unwanted here, grow up.

Chen has made the vB.org community what it is, he is a superb hacker and has done an excelent job here at vB.org and without him I don't think vB.org would be as big as it is today. Even if Chen can't commit 100% to vB.org he is still more than welcome here. Perhaps there should be some more mods etc so that the work load is more evenly distributed.

I'd like to thank Chen for all the hard work and effort he has put into the site and all the excenent hacks he has released. I hope things turn out well.

We all know Chen can't be with us forever, he is a growing man, but for what he has done, for all of us, I hope he will atleast pop in here and there and set us spammers straight here and there.

UHhh wait....sorry to see you go Chen, You are the "best" programer I have seen, do his thing, I hope you get a awesome-paying job for what you do, so you can become rich and by vb.org ^_^.

ravio.com and yaxay.com are completely different sites. :) As c-prOmpt pointed out, ravio.com is his design site. yaxay.com is now owned by someone else and is a forums site.

i believe that TECK was just reffering to the point that he had gotten confused btw the ravio and yaxay sites... i mean if you don't know about them then can't you confuse them? or is it suppose to be known? either way i don't think he made reference to the fact that C-Prompt actually still owned anything... he was more in general reffering to the point that Firefly was coding something to do with C-Prompt...

Why dont you people stop jumping to conclusions and let Chen deal with his own problems, I am sure he would say something if he was to leave vb.org. You wouldnt believe what some comments people make can be hurtful, offensive, childish and can affect other people.

Also you shoud not be discussing private conversations you had with him here, I think its not apropriate and he might feel you have a big mouth.

IMO

personally, i dont see who could replace Chen. PPN, ya, is a good idea. i dont think some of the devs will take Chen's place...
is to bad if Chen would leave. this place will not be the same without him...

this guy put real heart onto vb.org. i just imagine the nights he spent to update the forums to newer versions... with all the hacks, create better hacks, help the devs, help the people here, check for postings, etc...
all this mixed with his personal life. it takes alot of time and effort.

Hooper, that's why i got offended about the joke. sorry for being harsh, but it was not the place and time to make it that specific joke.

let me quote from one of my previous posts:
unfortunatelly i see vb.org slowly dieing of good people. is not at all what it used to be 1 year ago when i joined.
FireFly hardly posts. PPN also. the devs never say a word here, it makes me feel the is a forbidden teritory for them...

all the good hackers dissapeared. and little kids are trying to tough out with so called "hacks". freddie was right when it was saying: "your hacks are worthless" to those who used to race the "one ton hacks" released fever... with crappy code into it, bad conditions and all sort of terrible mistakes.

anyway, i'm sad. really. i miss all the good people who used to yell at me because i have a big romanian mouth. i miss my friends who all dissapeared from my side, here in this little universe where i made some good friends.

this is my 1755th post. and trust me in the last 3 months i hardly made 100 of them here.
today i got lucky to catch firefly. i send him an email to help me out with a problem i had with my board and i solved it.
i asked PPN if he is kind to update his hack (latest post, working version), but he is busy with the new vb3 code. i understand him truly.

there is nothing new and good hapening at vb.org. let me repeat. nothing.
everyone abandoned this community to find refuge to vb.com or other sites, where people are alot more comunicative.

Downhill indeed, a lot of good hackers have gone, but new ones have arisen! Like g-force2k2, he's releasing a lot of great hacks, there are others too, I guess it's time to start re-building eh?

Erwin
09-23-2002, 02:01 AM
A lot of the veteran hackers are NOT gone, they are just waiting for vB3 to come out. No one wants to waste time writing hacks for vB2 (unless it's a simple one) because hacks for vB2 are incompatible with vB3.

Erwin, thanks for the kind words. also, just to let you know, i will not upgrade to VB3. and i do have new hacks that i made... i make a mod almost every 2 days to my board.
the way it is designed my site and with the optimisations i made to VB, i think my current forums will perform better then the new VB3...
my point was not about who releases hacks. releasing hacks is not the issue. the issue is to interact better with the community by implicating ourselfs into it.

how many of you suggested an idea to any admins or mods here?
or a competition, or something to fireup the team spirit... not many. we have a forum called "site feedback".
i never saw any suggestions there, that's why was made this forum, not only to report that the thread xx is not loading...

i know... i know.. :)
however, 11queries on homepage (13, loggedin) with average loading times like 0.1 seconds sounds good to me.

the highest number of queries performed on the forums is 18.
forumdisplay was optimised to act as a news roller, threads lister and tutorial indexer. that's what it's eating my queries...
the rest is average 10-12queries. hmm let me correct this, the showthread have 17queries...

the site will be up in few weeks. i think you will like it... :)
the quick thread starter changes names automatically in function of what forum you are viewing...
also, the news roller looks like a normal thread, but only with first post, news icon on the right side, no of comments, etc. same thing like postnuke main page, well sort of..
