View Full Version : Pay for Attachments - Store Hack integration.

I have a board that revolves around MIDI files located at http://midibuddy.net

Right now I have it setup so a member has to post 5 topics before they can download files from the site. This creates a problem, however. People come to the board, sign up, post 5 topics, get their files and never come back again. If there are new files they can download whatever they want from that point on without having to post ever again. I want the members to participate more. (there are 5k members and 2k topics)

I want to charge the members within the store hack for these files (attachments) Is there an easy way it could be done?

An easy way should be a way to decrease the amount of points automaticilly once they clicked on the attachment, and if they don't have the right amount of points then redirect them to an error.

An extensive way could be a new action on the store where the users can buy an amount of tickets. Tickets wich you can buy attachments for. 1 ticket = View/download 1 attachment.

Either way would be sweet!

I think the problem would be making it so once they buy that attachment they don't have to pay for it again. Just in case they click on it and they need to click on it again to save it or something.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Anyone? :( I would still love to add this to my forum.

Another thing I thought of was making it so different file extentions would be a different value. ex. gif would be a different amount than a zip.

My moderators had another suggestion today: give a member points for posting midi files. In this situation the member would only receive points when they post a .mid file. Or only in particular forums.

Anyone care to give this a shot? I'm willing to pay you in peanuts, and if you do a really good job and have paypal, I'll be generous :)

So what you want is a new item in the Store where someone can pay you via paypal to get the ABILITY to add ONE attachment?

no, they pay with store hack currency. I'm currently having this hack made.

Okay :) Just an FYI, the users can pay per attachment or buy attachment credit (for a discount). A user can not be double charged for the same file, the system keeps track of what files are downloaded by each user. In the admin control panel the file types can be selected (on my board, users pay for .mid files but not .jpg and .gif files) and the price can be set.
