Is hacking worth it?

I hacked the version right before the newest to see another one come out.. Now with 3.? due around the corner whats the use? I think it would be too hard to keep upgradeing and saving all the hacked stuff so you would just start all over again.....

I guess it depends on the person. Personally , I love the feeling of hacking :D

With every hack it seems you learn a little bit more about vb and some of it's ways. That helps to add things that you want that aren't already there yet. That's how it keeps growing. :)

That's one reason why not many big hacks are being released... I guess most people are waiting for 3.0 to be released. :)

personally i can't agree... with my recent private text messages 1.0 version released i wouldn't call that small ;) and with my warnings hack and total time online coming up in the next few days they'll both be nice sized hacks (hopefully popular ones too)

anyways im always striving to become a better hacker... i really like hacking so i wouldn't wait for vb3 :p but it does look nice :)

I started a year ago. I didn't know PHP, MySql, or HTML, really...I had been programming all of my career, in mainframe languages, and recently in the past few years, Java, to some extent. Formally, I'm a Sr. Systems Engineer, but thats really just a title for old mainframe dinosaurs that no one has the mercy to tell them they are extinct...

Well, I can tell ya now, I LOVE THIS STUFF!! As said before, each time one plays, one gains a deeper understanding and view of things. Thru PnG, I have become somewhat skilled, even to the point of planning and creating some hacks on my own!

I end up changing alot of the hacks I get. Not because they are borken, but more so to fit in wif some of the others I haev applied. Sometimes, a hack needs adjustment to fit my styles, whatever the reason, I usually am only annoyed by the fact that I never seem to get enough time to "hack", and do it the way I want !! (Ask my wyfe, she never see's me any where other than my desk)

So, when 3.0 hits the streets, yes, I will begin again. And I'll love it!

i have to agree with bitbender... i enjoy hacking.. i will hack vb2.2.6 until vb3.0 comes out :p then i will start hacking vb3.0 :) and in continues on ;)

Your hacks are a lot of use to me and you're also taking up my request :)

Most of your hacks have no bugs which is also a very big plus point.

I'll probably keep hacking my board untill vB3 is here, as soon as its got a beta out I'll be upgrading to that and starting fresh. Playing with hacks, changing them to suit my board and doing the odd modification to the origional code has taught me quite a bit, I's say I know quite alot about computers and computing, but knew nothing about PHP or MySQL before I got vB. And they are skills that I have found usefull.

vB3. I say people need to release ALL 2. hacks now to get it out of their system in celebration of vB3! :)

Most of the hacks I wanted have appeared in some form in vB3. I will be adding the rest and releasing about 10 on the same day ;)

I have most of them updated though, admins reading private messages, advert management, change username, moderators editing access masks and so on telling would spoil the fun :)

I am not quite sure that I understand what is being said here. I am completely new to vB and hacking all together.

I am confused in that I do not know if the current hacks I have installed on 2.2.6 will work with 3.0. What will happen if they don't? Kinda weird for the users of the board to get used to a hack, and then pull it away because it does not work with 3.0. Can someone help me by telling me what happens to the installed hacks upon an upgrade.

well you either have to upgrade each file manually (the changed ones of course) and then run the upgrade... but with vb3 coming out in the near future it's been stated that 99% of the current hacks will be to no use to vb3 :p regards...

No they won't.

When you upgrade, you will upgrade to a stock unhacked vB3.0 - vB3 is coded differently to vB2 so most current hacks will have to modified for them to work with vB3.
