I think a hack that integrates the OSCommerce project would be very awesome.

OSCommerce is an open source project so I don't see why it would be that hard.

I am going to experiment with using the same user database and see what I find.

Has anyone tried any integration?

I might work on such an integration however I believe it would not be wise to develop this project while vb 3 is so close.

After its release the project would need a complete revise so I guess we should all wait for vb 3 for major projects like this one.

Well after thinking about it, I'm wondering if I really want all of the users accounts from vB in OSCommerce??

I think there might be some benefits to having two seperate systems.

Hmm, just don't know yet.

I persoanly thinks it is a good idea that they could be used over each others...

But`s that`s me.... LOL

I really wish the vBulletin and osCommerce and other PHP applications would move toward using LDAP as thier authentication. Then we could easily intergrate all of these apps together.

sounds interesting.

I had a play around and got as far as compiling a little include for displaying OS commerce "what's new" box on the forum index page, but a more complete integration sounds cool.

I would be happy for the integration with 2.30 also!

I would like to see this as well, even a version for vbulletin 2.3.x would work as I am sure there are many that will not be upgrading to vb3. I doubt I will upgrade to vb3 even when it does go gold.

I may be willing to do this as a paid hack.

I currently use OSCommerce with vBulletin 2.3.X on my site. I am willing to PAY to have someone fully integrate OSCommerce with vBulletin user database. Another nice feature would be OSC sharing templates with vB, but that's not as important.

How's that for motivation?

Hi,

I'm currently working on a personal oscommerce store and I also want to get it integrated with vBulletin. I'm hiring a php/mysql/oscommerce guru to work on it and due to the cost, I was wondering if anyone here is interested in sharing with me the development cost in making this script! The programmer did not give me a quote on the cost but if anyone is willing to join with me (the more, the merrier), I will fairly split the cost equally base on the no of people joining in this effort and each member will get a copy of the script and installation its a win-win situation for everyone)!

I will provide the evidence of the development so as to make everything as transparent as possible. Please kindly send me a PM if your interested. Thank you.

We should also see what insactus would charge for this job! at least as a fair comparison or guideline!

Its a good start that he is a member of these forums!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for your PM! The programmer is asking a price of around $200~250 with a time frame of 20-30 days to complete the hack. Right now I'm trying to bargain with him on the price but it would be great if we can join in and combine our resources so as we can further save on the development costs.

Right now, we have 3 guys interested in developing this project so lets say the cost is around $250 then this will be split divided as follows: $250 / 3 = $83.33/per person.

As such, it would be great if we can have at least 10 or more people so we can split the cost even further! Please send me a PM or post them in this thread if you wish to join. :)

the x-cart vb integration is only one way. Its not really the best. I have a copy of x-cart and am starting to realize its not all its cracked out to be. Which is why I am working on programming my own shopping cart along with a few other nice goodies that can integrate with it for 3.5. Contact me for more information.

you would think that with the number of third part applications out there that the vB staff woudl actually sit down for a day and make a plugin or mod or hack and write some documentation that a moderatly knowledgeable coder could use. Now that would be what I call support .. yet here I am still waiting and hopping someone with more skills then I will come up with a way.

somebody found out how to use vbulletin user DB with the one of OsCommerce???
like use one for both so ppl don't have to sign in 2 times...???

so far i accomplish this (mi store) (http://www.ociosos.cl/ocio/misc.php?do=page&template=tienda)

just iframe inside of a custom template including the header and the footer... and also modify the oscommerce css to make it look like part of the forum...

if any one need help on this to make it look like that let me know....

and also if somebody know how to combine vb and oscommerce BD let me know too plz...

pd: It is a Spanish community so the main language is Spanish....

There used to be a contribution at the oscommerce site that did this for their 2.2 CVS version. Not sure if it is still there.

I think that Zen-cart has an integration module as well. Its an oscommerce fork.

Given the amount of OScommerce stores out there and the popularity of the software, a vbulletin integration would be a good step and would probably attract quite a few OScommerce webmasters to vbulletin.
And aside this; it would be a great add-on for vbulletin users as well.

Yeah I was quite surprised that there really isn't anything out there. Wound up writing my own store script. I probably wouldn't use an osC bridge now, but I agree it would be a very good thing to have available.

I have something like this done for another product to integrate into osCommerce already, I'm a read through this here more, but I think overall, when you have a customer sign-up, all you want him/her to have is just a login directly made to your vB board is it right, because vB to osCommerce wouldn't benefit too much if they didn't purchase yet???

Because that's the only option I see for integrating osCommerce into vB is good for....

I think you missed the other way. If you have a large community and want to sell community related merchandise then you would want OSC to be a secondary software to vbulletin. (ie. you would want vbulletin to be the main software with OSC integrated into it instead of vbulletin integrated into OSC.

By the way, I am just looking for a way to put vbulletin header/footer on the OSC page without using iframe. That way I can have specific title/meta info while still maintaining a seamless visual integration. If anybody succeeds please post up :D

I would think it's the other way around you know? Why would you want a forums member in your "shopping cart" admin that hasn't bought a thing from you? Do you think that inside vBulletin's Members area you would be a customer already in their "admin"? Just by simply using their forums as a "simple member"? Seems sorta odd to have it that way though...

See what I mean? Or am I missing something here???

Alfa1
08-16-2007, 05:13 PM
A OSCommerce customer account has much more information fields that are required to shop, then the vbulletin forum member account has. Therefor, it is not possible to shop with a forum account, but it is possible to browse the forum with a OSCommerce account.

Why not a bridge between both, plus a plug in that refers OSCommerce account to forum account and vice versa?

I think that it would be good to have a option to allow or not allow members without a OSCommere account to post in forums.
I also think it would be good for admins to easily check OSCommerce orders linked to a forum account. (In case of complaints, product reviews, etc.)

LEAD_WEIGHT
08-17-2007, 03:24 AM
I thought OSCommerce was a query killer for small and medium forums. I do not know why vBulletin just not make a cart or redo subscription and purchase though cart system.

davidcb
08-24-2007, 03:13 AM
I created a contribution that uses nusoap to connect between the 2 apps - this is available from oscommerce downloads.

Currently you register in oscommerce and this also requests a forum name and then creates your vbulletin account. It should be failry straightforward to change it to work in reverses as well.

Currently you need to login to both applications separetly (ran out of time to implement one login- but can be done).

The contribution would probably need to be modified to suit your circumstances but the source code is all available so you could hire a php developer to do this.

hi

i use the oscommerce since 6 years and i can tell that i know this engine (oscommerce)
to make a good brigde you need make this:
1) changing password function in vbulletin - and use from oscommerce (its better than in vb)
2) add some queries to both registering pages
3) make a one mod in activity link (add one param to check that user wants to have shopping feature)
4) in register form you should put the checkbox which tell to the script that user wants to be forum member (and vice versa)

thats all

as additional stuff you can add the "your basket" in forum navibar and of course link to the store.

i thinking now about a special promotion (in usergroup) for users which buy more than one time or leave for me some ammount of $$$ :D

there is a many ways to make this a one system with really good feature. if you wants i can in next week write more description about this bridge.
