Unfortunately FireFly didn't have the time to make the hack so i took it up on my own ;) Hope that you enjoy it... here's the breakdown... screenshots will be included below :)

What does this hack do?

It allows your users to private text each other within a post.
It still maintains a regular post. but allows an option to private text other users.
You can choose which usergroupcs can add private text messages and which groups can see them.
But unless a usergroup is allowed to view no other user will be able to view it except the user recieving and the user posting.
Enjoy this hack :) It's really a good addition to keep things smart.
The usergroups options can be edited in the admin cp usergroup.php
And the private text length can also edited in the vbulletin options in admin cp under thread options.
The private text messages work with bbcode... smilies... and disables html etc... same as a regular message would work.
Also maintains the same image count... so if you have your image set at 5 per post and the user tries 3 in a post and 3 in the private text message they will get the images error :)
The private text messages can be edited the same way as a post, but when quoting they're bypassed.

btw if you look a screenshot back or two you'll see that html was disabled within the private text messages... and that smilies were enabled :)

in my idea, this is more efficent than PMs because i rarely read my PMs

but it would look nice if you made the text for people that can see it like with a black background with white text so people can notice it

yeah i think i might modify it to make it more regonizeable... and yes it can be used like a private message :)

btw you can also simply just edit the postbit_privtxt template and add color etc... whatever you like :) very simple to modify :D

well included you can decide which usergroups can view all the private text messages... but if you mean having only one certain private text being viewable to a certain usergroup i will work on such :)

And the step you said that had 2 instnaces of the code in newreply has 3 for me. 2 under a redirect and one a few lines down from where I added the other code for this hack.

Do you have any problem with "private messages" at showthread.php? Well I have, I test by PTM (private text message) to one of member then I log out and use different member and can saw these at my showthread.php! Also when I log out and I can saw these private messages! Do you have any problem with these?

Unfortunately, yes! When I first tested it, everything worked. Now even guests can view the privtexts.

Does this work with multiple styles? Because I just installed it, didn't see anything, installed again, checked again and I'm not seeing any forms to fill in on edit post page or reply... :(

Did you config the usergroups yet? because i believe that they all come in as no for being able to add and view... so you have to adjust those options in admin cp first ;)

All I have in the admin cp that I didn't have before is the char limit - 500? I don't have an option to set usergroups. Yes I did run all the queries. I just tried to run them again to be sure and they told me I already has them (duplicates).

Btw, when I use usergroups.php to allow a usergroup to add private texts it does work, but when I visit the page again, it still shows "No".

The most important problem is that everyone can see those private texts, though. ;)

well in the usergroup options did you make sure that you disabled them to see all private text messages? and also for the problem with the usergroup.php the fix is in the new zip and on the first post... you have to replace cannaddprivtxt to canaddprivtxt (i think) hope that helps somewhat?

Tim the usergroup configs can only be done in the usergroup.php

edit the usergroups and you'll find the options there... hope that helps :)

Nope, it's not. I log out, I can see all private messages. "Can view all private text messages" for usergroup "Unregistered / Not Logged In" is set to no. According to my database, "canaddprivtxt" is set to 1 for all usergroups I'm interested in, yet usergroup.php shows no. "canviewprivtxt" is set to 0 for all usergroups but 6 ("Administrators"), yet a guest can see all private texts. I just rechecked all file changes again. I'm going crazy. ;)

I have installed Post Counter & Direct Link (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22083) (change to showthread.php - probably significant?), NewStatistikHack 1.2.1e (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41421) (change to newreply.php, among others). There are others, but none of them touches any of the files or tables I had to modify for your hack.

Doesn't work here.

Firstly, whenever I change permissions I do so, go back to check and they've gone back to the original (off) setting.

Even when I do click on then don't go back in, I (admin) can view all of them (as I should), so can the person I send it to (as he should), but unfortunately when each of us logs out of the board we can still read it... :(

Sorry about that. I erased it after I found the second instance of code. It was formatted different in my showthread.php so I had to search for a single line. I felt kind-of stupid and thought I could erase it before anyone caught it. :)

My ISP has been down since about 1/3 into this hack. I had just uploaded the newreply (before the added change which I have to do when I can get the site back online) and just got done with the showthread.php and was uploading it when the site went down. Now, I have made the changes to it and am just waiting for the site to come back up so I can finish the hack. I'm in a holding pattern, I guess you could say. :)

g-force2k2, I may need your assistance when I finish this in case I got something wrong in the middle of all of this. Having a site go down in the middle of a hack can be quite frustrating, especially when there are changes made during that time. :)

me as admin can edit my private message text, but all my registered useres and mods can't edit their priv. message text. they simply don't see the priv. message box under the post when they wanna edit the post.

also if they edit their post, the priv. message text is gone after that.

The box shows up fine but you can't edit it with or without the new code you posted. It won't even do it with the old code in it. :)

thats because they don't have permissions too... once you post it you can't change it... but thats just they way i think... only way to edit is if you have permission to view all private text messages... it you'd like i can easily show you how to change that?

Umm when you edit, are you using Admin access? Cuz I edit and save it without any problem with Admin access (g-force didnt add more group permission yet but soon) I change the private message or add few message and it come out normal.

- With other's private texts - after "Can view all private text messages" for my usergroup, of course.

to solve the sql error simply just remove my coding slashes... for some reason on the second edit of the showthread for that query it will error out...

so just make this coding:

g-force: i have had a look at your code, everything seems ok, but may i suggest a optimization? (could perhaps also help with next version alowing more users to view...)

i see your privacy infos depent on the username, that's no problem as long as you don't change someones username because he want....

you should convert the username into the userid and just save the userid of the user a private message is shown, so he can always read the message, no matter if he changes his name somewhere in future.

as said this could help later also with adding more users to view this...

just a suggestion :)

I hope you don't think I blame you. I just have one of those setups that always seems to have problems. They usually get worked out in time, but with over 100 hacks installed, there are bound to be conflicts that don't seem worth the time for very many hack authors to fix. Maybe my site is telling me "enough hacks", you think? ;)
