stuck on this.....
====================================
Still in vbindex.php find the section that has:
// start vBulletin original code
// -------------------------
// add here the vBulletin code of the original index.php
// lines 142 - 202(in an unhacked 2.2.8 index.php)
// -------------------------
// end vBulletin original code
and replace:
// add here the vBulletin code of the original index.php
// lines 142 - 202(in an unhacked 2.2.8 index.php)
those lines with lines 142-202 (thats the numbers in an unhacked 2.2.8 index.php)
line 142 starts:
$activeusers = "";
$loggedinusers = "";
if ($displayloggedin) {
and 202 ends:
$totalonline=$numberregistered+$numberguest;
$numberinvisible=$numberregistered-$numbervisible;
==========================================
anyone possibly have this code thats supposed to be replaced with the 2.2.8 index.php?
this instruction totally blew me away..can anyone assist?

Hackers create hacks for your benefit, and most do not work for vBulletin - Those that post hacks here who do work for vBulletin are not required to give you support for the hacks that they post - Your support entitles you to support for the basic product, unhacked... People offer their support for their hacks or for your board voluntarily as NTLDR said, so show some respect...

That is amazing... utterly amazing.
This guys missed the concept of a hack. NTLDR worked and toiled many hours to create and test this great hack, plus all the hours of work to package it in a form that other people could use, work for which the author gets zero benefit because he already knows how to use it, and you the user get all the benefit.... without the hack, the alternative would be???? Coding it yourself? Then questions would be answered by... you???? How many hours would that take? Probably more than the 39 minutes wait time before the sparks flew here.
I think you need to do a bit of homework before blasting the hand that feeds you. My guess is this guy didn't even know that NTLDR is the author of the hack. NTLDR has been very, very, very helpful to anyone who bothers to put minimal effort into solving the problem, shows a bit of patience, and as the prior responder mentioned... a little respect for the great job done with this code. You didn't pay anything for the hack, so that means NTLDR isn't getting paid to write it, and he certainly isn't getting anything for putting up with rude ungreatful people.

mv540, you waited exactly 34 minutes before you bumped your question which is about 23 hours less than most people bump. Now it may be because this hack isn't working, but to be honest, there is no need to be rude like you were, something like "Please help me" would of been better than what you posted. I posted this in support, but does anyone know how I would change the look of the main page that vbindex.php is on?
It looks like a web portal right now, like php nuke in some ways. I've seen sites do it, but how can I change it so the layout is the layout I used in the pass; only I implement a few functions, such as the news and the poll?
What templates do I edit? Or is it a file?
Also; on the charmed website which was shown as an example, I noticed you used vbIndex to create a review section, I think. How would I go doing that?
mccollin
08-23-2003, 01:13 AM
My site is doing just what you described if you check it out. You will need to edit a lot of templates, and create many new ones to do what I've done, but I'd start with the main page and go from there. I'd also recommend reading back through this thread. I posted pretty detailed instructions on some of what I've done, and there are many other tips to help as well.
vbIndex has its templates grouped under vbIndex Home Page templates. Start with "home", and you should be able to figure it out. The names are obvious. If you need to do anything complex, you may need to modify the php file, but it is layed out to make it pretty easy as well (if you no some php).
The Charmed site has a lot of stuff that isn't part of vbIndex, like the reviews section. You'll need to look at other hacks to do that, and possibly combine some things.

NTLDR,
I don't know if I asked you this before, but do you know how to make the news page give you a page listing at the bottom like vBulletin does. This would be kind of a news archive. So, you'd set how many news items you wanted on the page.. fine, but then be able to let the user go back in time.
Another idea that I'd like to exploit is to subhead the news by Date.... so you get.
Monday, August 25, 2003
News Headline 1
Story.................
.......................
News Headline 2
Story..................
.........................
Sunday, August 24, 2003
News Headline 3
Story.....................
<< Page 1 <> 2, 3, 4, Next >>
Something like this. If I could figure out the page thing first, that would be way cool.... Can we exploit the code and template that vBulletin uses to do this bit? Thanks.
NTLDR
08-25-2003, 03:02 PM
For the page navagation you can use the getpagenav() (Pretty sure thats what its called in vB2) function which generates the page navagtion links (Page 1, 2, 3 Last >>).
Also it will require and edit to the news query and a few extra variables. Alot of the vB files have this (memberlist.php, showthread.php, forumdisplay.php for example). I don't think it would be too hard to do and may include this as standard for v3.0.0.
For grouping by date, you would need to store the last date (without the time) and compare it the next time round the loop, if its different then update the last date and add the header to the template.
Here is an example of what I mean:
$lastdate = 0;
while($news = $DB_site->fetch_array($newsposts)) {
$date = vbdate($dateformat, $news['dateline']);
if ($lastdate != $date) {
$lastdate = vbdate($dateformat, $news['dateline'];
$newsbits .= 'header code/template call here';
}
// rest of script

Edit: I just had a crazy idea, is it possible for 2 vBindex's to be installed on one server? If so, here is my idea:
I have a clan that I run and I am considering making a seperate vBindex for my clan's forum and page, but my site is hosted on my forum's site, so my forums is mysite.com/forums and my current vbindex is located at mysite.com/index.php but my clan's site is going to be mysite.com/clan/ and so I was wondering how to get the vBindex working since my clan's site is not in the forums directory, and it's not in the home directory, but it's in it's own directory. Oh and my forums for it wouldn't even be /forums the main forum for my site would be somthing like mysite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=9
This might sound kind of confusing but see if you can get what I am saying. I like vBIndex a lot and I want it to be my home page for my clan site and it's forum. Thanks.

Edit: I just had a crazy idea, is it possible for 2 vBindex's to be installed on one server? If so, here is my idea:
Yes, this can be done easily, take a loom through the thread, two or three people have done this already.
As for the news you'll need to re-do the entire table structure so that each news item is in its own table seperated with a <br />
StrykerContact

Loom through the thread? It is 103 pages long, but I'll do my best. I am pretty busy lately. Thanks for the answer.
Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, I do believe it is a violation of your code to remove the copywrite text from the footer of your hack. Well I have come across a lot of sites that have, and I'm sure there is plenty out there. I think that is a discrace and you busted your balls to make this hack. If you need to find some, just type in vBindex in a google search and check out all the sites and look at there footer. One I happened to note was this one:
http://www.dfrsquad.com/forums/vbindex.php
Copywrite text is clearly removed from the footer of that page, and yes it is powered by vbindex. Just thought you should know because I greatly respect your work.
Edit2: Also now that I look, I don't think you exactly understand what I'm saying here. I do not want another page for vbindex, I want a SEPERATE vbindex. The seperate one pointing to a different news forum and different settings and different templates, not just a page you click from a link and it opens up a new page in vbindex that you customize. I mean an ENTIRELY different vbindex, please read my post again to see what I'm saying, and if you DO understand what I'm saying I'm sorry for doubting you, just making sure.

There is no requirement to keep the copyright text (Other than the standard vBulletin text) for this hack as the majority would re-move it regardless, however I have reported that site for the lack of vBulletin copyright both on the site and forums.
To have two version of vBindex running, you would firstly need to rename all the templates to newtitle_X from home_X and add them in the ACP for the styles required and then make a few modifications so that the news forum can be different for each one. See back a few pages for the variables you'll want to change.

If you go back several pages to areas where NTLDR and I were discussing some hacks to the hack, you'll find how to do what you want in explicit detail. If you look at my site, I have many vBindex's. I actually made a single vBindex home page and I dynamically feed it a variable to completely change the page, the news, etc. Even though I have many of the vBindex blocks turned off, it's still basically what you want I think. If you go my site and click on the different phones, you'll be taken to the different pages. And, even though YOU are busy, YOU do need to read back through the thread to find what YOU need. I did it when I came here, and it took me quite a while, but it was worth it. You'll find that people are more happy to answer your questions when you've put in a little homework before hand. This is an awesome script, and very simple and easy to twist into what you want it to do. NTLDR did an a great job.

vBindex v3.0.0 Beta 1 - Public Beta Released
I happy to announce the first release of vBindex for vBulletin 3. This is the first beta so it may still have some bugs left in it, however after testing both here and at hellsatans site most of the obvious bugs have been resolved. The templates remain largely un-phrased untill vBulletin have added all a majority of the phrases into the language system. Due to the restrictions on discussing vB3 hacks and Addons here at vB.org, vBindex 3.0.0 Support will only be given over at Core Forums (http://www.coreforums.net) when you have PM'ed either myself (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/private.php?do=newpm&userid=10435) or hellsatan (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/private.php?do=newpm&userid=4197) your Core Forums username to us via the vB.org PM System. vBindex 2.x support will remain in this thread.
To download you will need to enter the following forum password:

question: on my site www.paintballmessage.com, only two news posts show text... how can I fix this (its vbindex 2.1)
NTLDR
10-20-2003, 08:40 PM
Please read the thread before asking a question thats been asked countless times before. You need run the Update Counters option for vBindex.
PAINTBALLM
10-20-2003, 09:00 PM
and how do I do this? I updated my counters a long time ago, it never helped vbindex at all. NOTE: Its doing this for new posts as well, anything after 2 = no text.
NTLDR
10-20-2003, 09:59 PM
Make sure you have followed the instructions, if you haven't edited newthread.php then it won't work for new posts and the postid update counters option will have to be run after every new post.
PAINTBALLM
10-20-2003, 10:01 PM
your not understanding me. I did edit newthread.php, and It DOES add new posts, however after 2 new posts it does NOT display the post text for 3 & so on.. I have also updated my post counters after posting, and it does not work.
NTLDR

Like I've already said countless times in this thread, using the update counters option that you added (by editing admin/misc.php) for vBindex fixes this.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '}' in /home/www/audiokarma/forums/vbindex.php on line 174
This was the response when I tried to run vbindex.php from the forums directory for the first time. Is this a typo I created during editing or possible copied over one to many symbols?
themonarch
10-29-2003, 03:55 PM
Parse errors are kinda like the default error of php...I'd recommend checking your paths and then rechecking your installation. Also, re-upload all your related files in manual ASCII mode via FTP instead of Auto. See if those things help.
NTLDR

Follow what themonarch said and double check the editing, I expect you copied an extra line or something.

Thanks people, I re-edited and re-uploaded the vbindex.php and it now works. I do have another question though. The resulting page uses the default vbulletin header. How do I get the page to use the custom header I use for the forums. This is data saved in the header block of the style section via the admin console for vbulletin.

Do I need to edit something in vbindex or shoutbox to get the smilie icons to show up in the shoutbox posts on the vbindex page? They show up fine from the regular forums and shoutbox pages. So, I'm thinking it's because my vbindex runs from outside my forums folder. Just need to edit the path to the icon folder, but don't know which template to edit.

2 things.
http://pbmessage.com (now on vbindex 3)
1. error on bottom right, I feel stupid because I cant figure out whats causing it, it would be nice to get it figured out.
2. what template do I edit so it lets people login from the front page, it isnt working because the full path isnt in front of it and I forget which template I edit to have it work properly.
Thanks

NTLDR,
For quite some time ago we vbindex 2.1 on our site and it has been running flawlessly. Recently, I noticed smilies are no longer showing in the news posts and in the shout box. Do you know of any reason this may happen?
I am running vb v2.3.0
I have been running vbindex for at least 6 months I would imagine.
Our site can be viewed here: http://www.dfrsquad.com
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I updated to 2.3.3 replacing all of the files and starting fresh. I reinstalled vbindex 2.1 and no smilies resulted yet again. Is there anything that you could think of that is causing this error?
Anything would be greatly appreciated at this point. Perhaps I will updrade to the newer versions...

I've been curious for awhile on how to have a simple column to the left or right on vBindex displaying just the titles from a forum (say, a "Review" forum) and using it on the main page to attract attention to that particular forum. I'm not sure if this has been posted here before, but here's nothing.
It's more or less the news code already embedded in NTLDR's code from Teck, but I'll go ahead and post up how I did it anyway for those of you that were curious: [instead of having to install a large, bulky article archive]
In vbindex.php, find
// news (based on code by TECK)
// -------------------------
Above it, add:
$articleforum = "2";
$articleposts = "10";
$maxarticletitlechars = "22";
// ARTICLE (based on code by TECK/NEWS/VBINDEX)
// -------------------------
$articlequery=$articlequery=$DB_site->query("SELECT thread.*,threadpost.pagetext AS pagetext FROM thread LEFT JOIN post AS threadpost ON (thread.tpostid = threadpost.postid) WHERE forumid = '$articleforum' ORDER BY thread.dateline DESC LIMIT $articleposts");
while ($article=$DB_site->fetch_array($articlequery)) {
$articlethreadid=$article[threadid];
$articleusername=$article[postusername];
$articleuserid=$article[postuserid];
$comments=$article[replycount];
if ($maxarticletitlechars!=0) {
if (strlen($article[title]) > $maxarticletitlechars) {
$article[title] = substr($article[title],0,$maxarticletitlechars);
$article[title] .= "..";
}
}
$articletitle="<a href=\"$bburl/showthread.php?threadid=$articlethreadid\">$article[title]</a>";
// end avatar
eval("\$articlebits .= \"".gettemplate('home_articlebit')."\";");
}
eval("\$article = \"".gettemplate('home_article')."\";");
// -------------------------
// end article
Set $articleforum as the forumID of the particular forum you're after for topics.
Set $articleposts as how many topics you'd like to display
Set $maxarticletitlechars to how many characters you'd like the subject to display [useful if you're in tight table quarters and want to make your topic look clean].
Add two templates, home_article and home_articlebit:
In home_article:
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%" border="0" align="center">
<tr>
<td align="left"><img src="images/left2.gif"></td>
<td align="center" width="100%" background="images/catbg2.gif" valign="bottom"><b><smallfont>reviews</smallfont></b></td>
<td align="right"><img src="images/right2.gif"></td>
</tr></table>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" bgcolor="{tablebordercolor}" width="100%">
<tr>
<td>
<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%"><tr><td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}" align="left">
$articlebits
</td></tr>
</table>
</tr>
</table>
Just noticed in the template above -- my layout uses the left/right/background table header graphics. You may have to adjust this to match your layout.
And add the second template:
In home_articlebit:
<smallfont>
-$articletitle<br>
</smallfont>
Modify the template where you'd like this to display on vBIndex [whether it be in the header, footer, home itself] and add..
$article
.. to the template. Load up your vBIndex and if there were existing posts already in the forum, they should begin displaying. Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was curious.
;) Now it's your job to keep everything on topic. :P

Hi Guys,
I've just installed vbindex, it's incredible. Exactly what I was looking for.
However, I've got one little problem with it. Whenever I try to login via vbindex, it takes me to the Password recovery form. Weird, huh? Any ideas?
Another thing I just noticed: I can't log out through vbindex either. Whenever I click Logout, it says "All cookies cleared", but they aren't. When I log out through vBulletin, it works just fine.
Cookie Domain and Path is set correctly.
Thanks a lot!
BTW, I'm running vBulletin 2.3.4 with vbindex 2.1

Add one of the following to the <td> in the template thats causing it, ie in the home_postshout and home_shoutbox templates for the shoutbox, you need to replace {catbg} with the replacement for the category background colour, I don't use vB2 and can't rememer what its called ;)
bgcolor="{catbg}"
or
style="background-color: {catbg}"
