View Full Version : Play a midi file in profile

This is the second hack I release. Hopefully, it will be useful to someone.
This hack allows your members select a midi file they want others to hear when they are viewing his/her profile. There is also a way for the admins to change/remove the midi the user entered.
For support, please post in this thread. Avoid PM or Emails if possible. If you're really bugged, try my AIM screenname (it's in my profile)

Cool, seems like it would slow down anyone on less than DSL by a lot, though.

Well midi files are usually very small... 4 or 5 k

lol.. I was working on a hack myself to integrate with my own Shop hack where people could purchase certain MIDI files into their profile. Everything happens by coincidence.

This hack has actually been active in my forum for more than 6 months but I
just decided to release it today...
Good idea. I am currently making a Juke Box system that uses swf files... but I need to buy (steal) flash first

OOO, it now eems that i cannot update my users post count in the admin cp?
*found the problem*
Still in admin/user.php, find:
makeinputcode("Number of Posts","posts",$user[posts]);
and replace it with
// Number of time a profile has been viewed by Pierre-Luc "Fuitad" Brunet
makeinputcode("Midi to play when viewing profile","miditoplay",$user[miditoplay]);
// End Number of time a profile has been viewed by Pierre-Luc "Fuitad" Brunet
this should read instead:
Still in admin/user.php, find:
makeinputcode("Number of Posts","posts",$user[posts]);
and add under it:
// Number of time a profile has been viewed by Pierre-Luc "Fuitad" Brunet
makeinputcode("Midi to play when viewing profile","miditoplay",$user[miditoplay]);
// End Number of time a profile has been viewed by Pierre-Luc "Fuitad" Brunet
DO NOT REPLACE! ONLY ADD UNDER, OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MODIFY YOUR USERS POST IN THE ADMIN CP!

Ok. Install perfectly, but I have a hack additions request since I am not yet skilled to do this.
Why not have a popup box where the user gets to choose his midis and when he clicks the link, the URL auto gets inputed into the box like smilies? Have the box we like a javascript popup.
Then just make an admin CP addon where those options to add, etc... to the popup are in the admin CP.

is there a way this can be done by uploading?

Streaming swf files are much better, they require some knowledge about flash but then you can have every mp3 you can imagine in someones profile ( I prefer Cypress Hill). I can place a tutorial how you can stream mp3 in flash if you wish.

to do this with flash, just replace the code in the template getinfo_miditoplay with:
<embed src="$userinfo[swftoplay]" width="0" height="0">
You can replace all "midi" text with "swf". Works ok. ;)

it does require the flash plug in to be installed which I personally think is annoying sometimes, I hate flash and refuse to have it installed on my computers ;).

Pls., How can I make that feature works in the forum home and not in the user profile?
I mean, I wanna let the user to choose the midi file link in his control panel, then that midi file will be played in the forumhome background.
