How do you get past that feeling? I have 2.2.2 and need to upgrade to 2.2.6 and I am so scared of doing it! I have lots of hacks installed, installing those was a pain in itself since I am just new at this, so how do you upgrade? I mean I read how to use Araxis but since I am not an expert on code, I am scared I will mess things up. If I start all over again, I am scared I won't be able to do the hacks again... :(

My host has upgraded PHP to 4.2.x. so now I must upgrade my forums :( The support team from vBulletin said this:

The upgrade instructuions are here:

You should also read the Announcements for versions 2.2.3, 2.2.4, 2.2.5 and 2.2.6 to see what templates have changed since 2.2.2. Many of these will have to be re3verted to take advantage of all the bug fixes, etc.

What does he mean by many of those will have to be reverted to take advantage of bug fixes, he lost me there!! Reverted to what? reverted from what? I am so lost, please help me! :(

where to begin, where to begin?

Jelsoft will not support hacked boards.. they were referring to regular unmodified boards.

as to your hacking problem, I'd suggest uploading all the files fresh, and re-installing the hacks after the upgrade... this also means reverting all the templates to original, which is by clicking on "revert to original" right next to the template.

I can't help you with those programs as I've never used them. However, you could consider installing your hacks in the 2.2.6 vB files on your local drive and then uploading them -- effectively upgrading your board and installing hacks at the same time. While that is an option, it still takes a lot of time to do since you have so many hacks and you could run into problems.

I'm not really sure what to say except give it a shot - and make sure to BACKUP your database using SSH/command line -- absolutely.

You can either figure out how to work those merging programs or just upgrade unhacked and one-by-one add your hacks. I'm sure your members will understand and most of your hacks should be able to be added in a few hours max. I only use a half dozen and I have reinstalled mine so many times that it is a piece of cake by now. Good luck. :)

I used Araxis to do it, it seems to have fixed the problems I was having and all the hacks are still showing. I just wonder if I left loose ends, that is always a possibility especially if you don't know what each bit of code does!

Only prob is my forums say I still have the old version....
