View Full Version : Forcing members to update their profiles?

I posted this on the vbulletin.com forums and was told to post it here.
Is there a way to make it so existing members when returning to the board (logging in) are promted to update the new required fields in their profiles before they can either post or view the board again?
I've added some required fields to member profiles that I'd like all 285 of my esiting members to update so that people who search these profile fields can get some decent results.
If anybody can get this to happen that would be great. :D
Thanks

Okay lets see.
A member comes to the board and logs in. The next screen that pops up is the "Edit profile" screen with a big message at the top from the administrator that says something like:
New Profile Questions are required to be answered below before you can post (or view) on the board.
They would then need to fill in those new required fields before they could either view or post on the board (administrators choice, one or the other).
Personally I'd like to use this in combination with these two other hacks:
http://www.vbulletin.org/hacks/index.php?s=&action=showhack&hackid=177
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21833
So that I can make a searchable database of members. Where people can find other people based on searching certain fields in their profile. But in order for any of this to work exisiting members need to be forced to update their profiles so that people actually have something to seach out. Otherwise the members would just read some note I posted on the board about updated their profile but never do anything about it.
I know how people are, they'll either put it off, not catch my note about updating profiles, or think the profile update doesn't apply to them. They need to be forced to update the information so the system works. This hack would make them update the newly added required fields before they could do anything.

So everytime the administrator adds a new *required* field to the profile they could select the option 'Force all members to update their profile = yes/no" if "yes" is chosen then all members are logged out of the system. When they go to log back in the 'Edit profile" screen pops up with the admin message above it telling them to fill in teh new required fields.

Sorry I responded before I saw you last post.
Yes you are correct. We just want our members to be forced to update the newly added "required fields" in their profiles.

Im kinda shady with this coding but it may work... i haven't tested it myself because i don't have a server at the moment ;p but im not sure if you want to restrict all pages or what... but try this coding...
I wasn't sure what fields you want to do but you can just insert them yourself... on every page that you want to restrict you need t put this function and then you must call the fuction like this:
The ## being whatever userfield you require... and you can call that functon as many times as you like... not sure if it'll work yet though...
Also add this template:
------------------------
error_emptyrequiredfields
------------------------
Sorry but you can't access this page because the Adminsitrator requires that you update all fields that are now required on the foum. Thanks in advance!
Hopefully that helps if not tell me ;)

Alright I'm sorry to have to ask this of you after you took the time to make this, but how do I install it? I'm a hacking newbie.
