I've got a number of users who want to be emailed with a notification (something that gives them a timestamp, and title of the thread would be fine) everytime a new thread is made in a forum which only they have access to -it's important that they only receive notification for new posts on that forum, and not on any of the other sub forums. I've searched this forum for hacks but haven't seen any suitable ones...
I wonder if any of you Ninja coders could whip up a hack for me?

It's a long waited hack: notify forum subscribers about new threads. However AFAIK it has never been done. One of the reasons why this is not coded is that:
Emailing hundreds/thousands of subscribers can slow down newthread.php very dramatically. So this hack may be convenient for small boards but larger boards with high member counts may encounter serious problems.. I think this is why vb as a default behavior notifies thread subscribers but not forum subscribers.

Ah yes, I understand that it'd be a Bad Thing(tm) to email all the board users. That's why I was looking for a hack that just emailed a selected usergroup -it's not going to be more than 40 people, and the traffic on the subforum should only be 3 or 4 posts a week.
Currently a single person is allowed to post to the forum and then she has to email all the people who might be interested. We need to do it like this so no one can say "I wasn't told about it" :)

Bump from the depths as I'm not the only one who'd be interested in this hack :D
