Use Membership information for full site

I am wanting to use the membership information used by vbulletin thruought my whole site as a membership login. Certain areas of my site will not be accessible unless the user is logged in. I need to know how to access the tables in the database from any page on the site and maybee add a few questions to the membership login. FlashKit is a perfect example of how I want to accomplish this. http://www.flashkit.com

Have any of you done this? Do you have any suggestions on how to make this work painlessly? I need information about the structure of the datbase.
