Hi
This is a small hack I put together to track whom deleted what posts from where. I searched here through need but did not find a relevent hack so came up with this.

it works but would benefit from some admin functions to manage the deleted posts table (delpost) in which it saves the details of the posts. It does not track attachements - just the plain text of the post.

what it does save is the userid, username, threadid, postid, title and text of the original post and the deletors name,id,ipaddress and time of deletion.

I have included a very basic viewer of the deleted posts.

I have tested and installed on 2.2.5 and 2.2.6 and encountered no errors.

usual disclaimers on liability (i accept none and dont use if you dont like that) and am happy if people want to use or adapt/expand with normal courtesies of acknowledgement etc.

to install read the install_deletetracking.php file's comments and follow them. to install the viewer put it into the forum/admin directory and open it in your browser - I have not added a link into the CP or anything.

good luck and hope its of use to others

whats the difference between this and the mod log? the mod log does almost the same thing but also logs close and moved threads too

It shows more than the moderator, date, and forum:

That's why it's better.

I actually wrote this to track some of what modlog doesn't - this does not track what moderators do from the moderator or admin panels but what is deleted from the actual forum itself. So if someone claims their post was deleted wrongfully you can check who deleted it and if the post should have been deleted & whom did it if none own up to deleting a contentious post.
It should compliment modlog's functionality not duplicate it - or the lastest version I have seen of it.

the mods can't delete posts from their cp can they??...

and the modlog does monitor what is happening on the forums...

hmm ideas for add ons if you dont already have them, admins can delete posts from the log and have a restore button so they can restore them

Have a look at the 'Recycle Bin' hack from a few months ago for similar functionality.

The version of the mod log i got from vbulletin.org doesn't track post deletions, only thread deletions! This looks to track all post deletions...correct?

Ok...I installed this and it could be very handly.

However...It will be too big to manage over time. I mean, the page view will get way to large when you call the viewdeleted program.

As it stands now...When you delete an entire thread...Each post in that thread is added as one hit in the database...So...as you can guess...it can get very hard to view this in it's current form.

Nice idea...but I feel it really needs further developmet to be usable. Like...A better page view. If it is a thread that is removed...make it clickable to see all the posts in that thread vs all the posts all the time like it is now. Have an option to restore if needed. All is all...good concept. :)

Clicked Install....Clicked Un-Installed. :(

Thanks :)
Nice hack :), I've installed it.. Very easy to implement and use :)

We've had a problem with threads and posts which were deleted with no reason and no one has admitted to have deleted them (when we were using DCForum..) - Now we could track down the mod. who do that :)

Thanks alot :)
