I got the updated stars & pips re amended by scorpion
& Updated it for 2.26
I only ammended the instructions,as it was originally made for 2.0.1 by bloofish & Juice a nice couple of geezers ;)

And it works perfect ;) on 2.26

Stars = Stars :)
Pips = Pips :D

pips are what u get before u aquire stars sort of like a dash in morse code :D

There seems to be some confusion in the instructions as to whether or not to modify adim/functions.php...
save and upload

now follow the Common instructions for ALL v2 vbb software,
near the bottom of this text file ;)

So after modifying showthread.php, the instructions say to skip down to the common instructions...

Do we go back and modify admin/functions.php as well?

you would think out of all the releases and over time this would have been added as an original features. Almost every other board I see has them or sites always want them.

Almax, I realize it's for 2.2.6....but you still haven't clarified in the instructions that you should edit *both* php files.. :D

I decided for myself to edit both files even though the instructions say to skip past the functions.php mod.

Anyway, thanks for the hack...I like it :)

Pips & Stars doesn't speak for itself. You've got quite an attitude when people here are asking for help, or a simple demo of what they're downloading and installing to their boards. I personally would never install a hack where the author was being a ++++ to everyone who asked for help.

I don't think that's too much to ask.

I'm going to assume that stars and pips are some sort of user rating system as the only other reference I can find to those two terms elsewhere on the net is in relation to Star Trek uniform insignias. :rolleyes:

Am I right? Stars and pips are used to rank a user accord to their posts or something weird like that?

yup.....based on post count ranges, you get more "pips" beside your name and once you reach a predetermined threshold, you get a "gold star" :)

I'll tell ya....the boyz 'n' girlz in my board are lovin' this one hehe :)

(although it's doing a job on creating post-wh-o-res :D )

I wont explain the hack as the instructions make it pretty clear what it does

pips are basically small decorative dots. i used the old 2.2.1 version on 2.25 and it worked fine. also this code doesnt look like it has any changes from the original one. i also only used the code for the admin/functions.php(from the original hack[?]) and it works perfectly on both vbulletin 2.2.5 and 2.2.6. i have modified for use with only stars but you can more or less get a basic idea of how its going to look, my images are different but use your imagination on how the pips and stars from the default pack will look like :)

Out of curiousity, how much code did you have to change from the 2.2.1 version to 2.2.5? I only want stars aswell

if your talking to me, all i did was remove the pips code and changed the post count to the post count of my user statuses on my board. i then added as much stars as i needed to for it to match the user statuses and only used the admin/functions.php portion and never used the showthread portion of the hack and it works fine.

Question about this hack.

Is there a way to make this work so moderators and admins can have CUSTOM pips rather than post count?

I want regular members to change based on post count, but moderators and admins have special pips (that I made).

My question is probably variable based.

If you're a mod, then you get this special pip.

If you're an admin, then you get this special pip.

Regular users will get the pips based on post count. Can someone please give me some code assistance? Thanks.

Does anyone know how to customize this so admins and moderators can have their own pips/stars without it being based on post count? They just automatically receive the moderator one.

yes its possible, me and my friend were tinkering with this code some months back. we managed to play a nice joke on a particular spammer on the boards. instead of it giving him stars, it would say "SPAMMER!" under his name. im sure it can be modified for mods/admins

ive had this hack on my board since it come out for 2.20

i believe that bloofish did the original

ive attached an image of the pips and stars if theres still not sure what they are

firstly, i have to agree that after your initial poor description of pips and stars, your attitude towards your fellow members for asking a question was discraceful

this board is great because everyone helps each other out and there really is no need for the abuse you dished out

secondly, i recently upgraded from 2.2.0 to 2.26, i had the original pips and stars hack on my board

i always take the time to save the hacks i apply to my board so that upgrading is made easier - on upgrading to 2.26 i applied the same changes i did to my board as i did with 2.20 and as you can see from the attachment, it works fine

i have not takent the time to look at the so called upgraded zip file but my question is this

If the original hack works on 2.2.6, why release it again and if there are changes what are they and were they needed :nervous:
