View Full Version : A separate section for vbhacker hacks...

This might have already been mentioned..... but I just wanted to commend Firefly again on his awesome addition to vB.... and to say that...

I think it would be a good idea to have a separate forum for hacks that are capable of working with his vbhacker, or at least some way of separating those hacks from the rest.

hmm, a new forum for these hacks wouldn't be good i think, but a threadprefix could be an intresting idea..

I think a separate unique download link just for vbHacker files would be better than a whole forum for them...

well either way... it's a bit confusing how it is now.....

perhaps vb3.0 will have the hack builder (or something like it) built right in....

I agree as well, a vbhacker section should be added to the hacks database link, then split out into its appropiate categories

A suggestion:

If a post has an attachment with "*.hack.php", an automatic signature/footer can be added to the message about basic info for how to install a vbhacker file.

Small and easy modification and will help a lot to save "how can I install this hack" messages.

How about you code a whole new file extension readable by an upgraded version vBHacker. Say for instance you download the file from an appointed vBHacker section of vBulletin.org. You get the download and the file comes out with an extension of '.hac' or '.vbh'. Much like how vBulletin can read '.sql' for backing up the DB it will do an installation procedure with the appointed extension for vBHacker. If you all want I can look into coding a rough draft for this.

I might do this, although readable files formats are harder than machine formats.

No doubt about that. Lol. I checked over the way vBulletin reads '.sql' and that was hard enough. But I'm sure it's nothing you can't handle Chen. :p

vBulletin doesn't "read" SQL files... that's a regular SQL format with queries, that you can send the server to perform.

Also Crater , please go to this (http://www.vbulletin.com/members/vbulletin.org.php) page and enter your username, to show you are licensed. (you will need to use your customer number and password to access that page)
Thanks. :)

Why not just make sure that ANYONE who post a vbhacker file has to put in front of the subject [vbhack] or something?

:D

    No problem.

Maybe everytime someone posts a vbHacker file there is a checkbox that says : vbHacker File

This way you could do a search and return all vbHacker files.

Just a thought

Those last two suggestions are the best. if you want to go the simplist route. Currently I'm trying to search for only VBhacker hacks and it's pain finding any. I don't really want to go through every hack to see if it has a VBhacker equivelent.

Ultimately a whole new database for just VBhacks would be the best choice. For everyone else that buys a Vbulletin and wants interesting new features but doesn't have a clue how to hack or doesn't have the time to copy and paste PHP all day.

Heck you could take VB.org and split it up into two different sections. One section for people who like code and one section for people who cringe at the sight of it. :)

Um...

Not a bad idea, but somehow I think its a little impractical...

Either a sub-forum under Full Releases for vBhacker hacks, or a prefix for them...

I still think that no matter what you post, if it is vBhacker, you should always post a .txt file for those who dont use it much...

Ja...I only use vBhacker when I am in a hurry, but I hate the fact that you have to upload a file just to get a .txt file...

well.... any which way you decided to do it would be fine.... as long as something actually got done about it..... as far as I can see a few months have went by.... and nothing has changed

I don't see why this is such a big issue, and I feel like this the U.S. Senate.... lots of talk, but nothing ever gets done ;)

I'm only kidding of course.... I respect all the work you guys do here... but could this one issue be worked out? It seems so simple....

I think that it should go ahead;)

There should be a checkbox in a "new hack" window, which adds "[vBhacker]" to the front, and the hacker should also provide a .txt version...
