View Full Version : REQUEST- AOL IM Hack
The AOL IM hack/tweak shouldn't be too hard, it would allow the user to automatically instant message the user, as alot of my board members use AOL.
For example to im me on aol you would use:
aol://9293:Eugenie98
There is already support in vBulletin for AOL, AIM and Yahoo Instant Messengers.
In various templates (Profile, ThreadDisplay) just uncomment the portions where it says $icq, $yahoo, $aim and the functionality will appear. :)
aim is aim, aol is aol, i believe they use two different commands to sends instant messages
also, how do you make the add to buddy list feature appear for ICQ and AIM?

Actually AIM is AOL and AOL is ICQ but hey that is besides the point. :)
All I did was uncomment the specific variables listed above to get all the functionality working. Go to
http://sitepointforums.com and look up members in the member listing. You will see the ICQ flowers and AIM walking man in the appropriate locations when members have the IDs in their profiles. The "Add Buddy" functionality came with that.
I only did it on the Profile screens because it could slow down display on individual topics.
can you explain in detail please.. i tried and failed :(
In the getinfo template search for
<!-- $icq -->
Change to:
$icq
Search for:
<!-- $yahoo -->
Change to:
$yahoo
Search for:
<!-- $aim -->
Change to:
$aim
You can do the same thing in the postbit template as well.
In order for the links to show up the member has to have the valid instant messenger ID's filled in.
There isn't anything more to doing this.
AIM & AOL users run off basically the same databases
aol://9293:screenname
calls IMs for both AIM & AOL users...

ignore that last statement...i was half sleep when i replied
the above line works...ONLY...if the user is on AOL
since everyone doesn't use AOL...it's useless
i went a did a lil research becuz i wanted the same for my board
and...this is what i've come up with.....
aim:goim?screenname=$aimhandle&message=What's+up+$username?...+I`m+from+LyricOly mpics.com
use that in the href="" statement before the aim image is called....and...it'll work perfectly....=)
and of course you wanna change it from my domain to yours...lol
oh yeah...and the add buddy feature...i forgot about that....
aim:addbuddy?screenname=$aimhandle
=)
only thing is...i know for a fact that works for AIM buddy lists
but i doubt it works for AOL lists
AOL's interface is a lil too difficult to add to a buddy list with one command...but...maybe it'll work...
*shrugging shoulders*
