Okay, I have been using both Araxis Merge and Beyond Compare recently and I'm a huge fan of Beyond Compare. If you have been to my board (http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/) you will see how many hacks and modifcations I have installed but I upgraded from vBulletin version 2.2.5 to version 2.2.6 in less than an hour with no problems! I recommend everyone who has a hacked up board to use Beyond Compare to upgrade it.

Here is a screenshot I took earlier this morning

If you have any questions on using it, ask in this thread. Hope this helps many of you.

I find Araxis Merge much easier.... It's just so simple... :)

I know Beyond Compare quite good, but actually I'm not very fond of upgrading my board via Beyond compare or Araxis Merge, like many other admins. My Board is HEAVILY hacked with some very huge modifications of mine and even if I work carefully (I always comment the lines I hacked), I dont find it very practical to go through more than 100 vbulletin scripts and literally thousands of lines of codes and be very careful about which line is a hack, which is a upgrade and update the code. Even if you miss one line, you will have a buggy board in return and probably you will never be able to trace the bug any more. So I agree that if you have a few modifications or hacks, these tools are very nice for upgrading but I just find them not so useful for very heavily hacked boards..My 2 cents..

Actually I use Beyond Compare differently.

I compare unhacked versions of 2.2.5 and 2.2.6 then apply the changes to my board kinda like a hack using find and replace. :)

thats what i do, compare the stock files and doc it has a go, then its just like installing a hack =D

i think the vbulletin developers ought to release vbhacker files for upgrades

Would it really be THAT hard?
All you really need to do is compare the previous version to the new one. Maybe Version 3 has something like this BUILT IN where all you have to do is select the patch. ;)
