Would installing 2.2.5 hacks on version 2.2.1 harm the hack any?

nah...I don't think so, so many people does it anways.

Chances are, you wouldn't mess anything up. But keep in mind that the vB Devs have changed a lot of files from 2.2.1 to 2.2.5, so there's a chance that the part of the code where you want to install a particular hack has changed.

Again, though, chances are you'll be fine.
