View Full Version : The Big 2 That Are Needed, But Don't Exist

Greetings All:

Well, the way I see it, there are 2 huge hacks that everyone wants, and that I think are really needed, that no one seems willing to take a shot at:

1. User homepages. Allow users to upload html files + graphics to have a webpage hosted by your community.

2. E-mail. I think we as a community NEED to find a way to either turn the PM system into a system that can also send&receive e-mail, or integrate some other solution.

I'm willing to help work on either/both of these projects, but I'll need some help since I'm not all that familiar with existing vbulletin code yet.

Also, any ideas on some existing technologies that could be edited to integrate into VB would be much appreciated.

The User Home Page would be easy to do, all you'd have to do was create a PHP uploader, and give the permissions to the forums folder to write new folders for peoples sites, then, set some disk quota limits and you'd have it. I could probably do it, but, I'm quite busy right now.

As for the E-mail, I'm sure there is a way to do this, but, I'm not sure, I can't think clearly at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if these features, or something like them, are already in place for vB 3...

I'm working on the user homepages thing as it happens, but I was going to only allow remotely hosted images - they can put their images on some free space somewhere then call them from their own homepages...saves space & bandwidth and also means they'll have to be vaguely serious to bother..

should be ready in a month or so..
