ChocoJournal System 1.5 ~ vB Integrated Journal

[Gamingforce]

Okay, the Integrated Journal System (called ChocoJournal at our place) is still a work in progress. I have made a ton of changes to it and built a start page for the journal. Take a look it so far below. If you are interested, reply to this thread. Other than for journal use, there can be a ton of other uses for it.

Unlike the other thread, I will include screenshots for the new entry / comment sections since you need an account at my place for that.

Wow this is exactly what I am looking for (see this thread (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36613)).

It is like a personal Blog system for each of your users. If your looking for another site to test this out on, please include me in the list. This would be perfect as another add on to Vbulletin and anything that creates stickiness and content to a web site is good.

Don't worry! I didn't forget about this. I just need to perfect it before releasing it to the public. I have to work on database query optimizations and stuff.

Right now we are up to Journal Version 1.71. ;-)

Here are the changes from Version 1.5 to 1.6:

> Buddy journal links are displayed on the main journal page. Only links to buddies that have a journal are displayed.

> A "My Journal" button has been added to the main journal page allowing you to access your journal quickly.
> You can now check how many comments you have made on all journals on your journal page (in the stats section).
> Comment entries now include profile and add buddy icons for the commenter. Also, if you click on the commenter's name it's linked to their own journal (Thanks to TubeRacer for the suggestion).

As for usage, our members seem to love it. We released it less than a month ago and already we have over 1130 entries, 337 members with active journals and 832 comments in total.

If you have any suggestions on improving it, please let me know.

It shows if you have a journal, when the last entry was, what the title of the last entry was and coming up soon is how many entries in total that member has.

I will be working on that for a future version. Journal System is now version 1.8. Here's what's new / different from version 1.7:


2 database query optimizations
Fixed a security bug allowing you to inject HTML into a journal page.
Number of new entries since last visit displayed at the top of any journal page.
Number of new comments in your journal since your last visit is now displayed on the main journal home page under "[ Journal Info ]"


I will make this hack public once all security, performance and feature requests / problems have been resolved.

I don't know what gamingforce do, but it's a long time and 3 Maintainceupgrades later and he sayed it's not perfect ..yopu must wait and so on.... Hey everyone, thanks for your interest in this hack. The release of PHP version 4.2.1 has changes the way global variables are handled so I will need to fix that first. I will also have to template a portion of this system (most of it is template based) since a few parts are hard coded code.

When it's ready, I will release it. Currently we are at version 1.82.

Okay guys, I just updated the ChocoJournal system to version 1.8.1

These are the changes and descriptions (I'm just pasting what I posted on my board)
Here are all the changes since version 1.8.1:

Bug Fix: When editing an entry, with a quote in the song title, it messes up.
You may use alt-s to submit a new entry or comment (suggested by Zephyrin)
Journal is now fully template based
Added a buddy most recent journal entry display system.
Added an easier to remember link thingy for journals.

[ Alt-S to submit new entry ]
As many of you know, on many of the pages here on GFF, you can press alt-s to submit the data on the form. You can now do this with all comment and entry pages. Zephyrin suggested this in a thread recently.

[ Fully templated system ]
Lol, you won't notice anything out of this one. It just makes my life easier. ;)

[ Buddy most recent journal entry display system ]
Okay this is what took most of the time tonight. LiveJournal has something like this so I thought it was a good idea for this place as well (of course ours isn't exactly like LiveJournal's). On the main journal page under Buddy Journals, there is a link that says: "View the most recent entries for all buddy journals.". Click on that to enter. By default it shows the latest post (one per buddy) made by your buddies in the past three days. You can change the time frame to whatever you want in the pulldown menu. Private entries will not be displayed through the buddy recent entry display system. This should make it easier keeping up to date with all buddy journals on one page! I haven't fully tested this feature yet (although I think it's bug free) so if you find any bugs, let me know. [ Easier to remember link thingy ]
It's difficult to remember those long gamingforce.com/forums/journal.php?userid=whatever&action=view links, so I implemented a feature that makes it easier for you to link to your journal. The new format is:
gamingforce.com/journal/?id=yourid
Replace yourid with your GFF userid. Anyone hitting this link will automatically be forwarded to your journal.
Example: http://www.gamingforce.com/journal/?id=1

hes not playing a game he is showing off his work, if you look as it last post you see that the templates are done if not close to begin done, also, he wrote it for his forum, if he wants to release it he can, if not, he has that right, honestly your not helping and a coment like that can keep a hack from coming out, its his hack, his work, he will be providing it to you if he wants, if you want it before he releases it learn some php and do it yourself.

You have quite the following. Along with the fine work you have done, the stir you have created should make you feel pretty good about your work!
I realize that your plans for your hard work is to make your site one in a million (literaly). I didn't have the time to read all the posts to see if there was any statement of intent for your creation. Are your plans to have this a donated hack to the community or do you see this as a marketable item? I will not even think of a third option. Inquiring minds want to know. There is definately a demand for the functionality so maybe an incentive would be enough to get a focus change?

I never installed it because one, I use the regular user title as their group/rank and made a custom profile field for their custom one, two, I use their username as their profile link and with the glow effect on it it's very hard to click, and three, I'm a lazy bastard ^^.

littLe request:
1. i want to have the number of comments in the postbit...
2. if it's possible can you make the +&- option by comment, like in karma hack, for example, if i like this user i give him + and my comment....and if i give him -(and he had 0 comments before), he became now in the postbit "comments: -1"
3. if user become comment, he recieve the mail....

I've converted the current vB Calendar into a Journal. It wasn't too hard to do. Just changing the permissions, and layout. People who want a journal may want to look into that.

I ditched it for the Journals - I had calendar.php sitting there, and didn't use it or link to it - I just used the same db table and columns, and the subject became the username field. :) It wasn't hard to do.

My forums currently have journals anyway, I have a sub-forum for them and each user can create his or her own journal thread.. it actually worked out pretty well too, the user's seem happy with it and they aren't crying out for it to become a seperate addition to the forum.

same here. it's one of the most popular places on the forums, too. it has the options for comments and everything already, only thing it lacks is the mood field.

The best course of action is to take a look at the vB Journal hack available, originally produced some time ago by Ryangel. There are a lot of homebrew improvements, but we're just beginning a process of sharing them and releasing an upgrade to the journal - so if any of you coders wish to contribute, be sure to check the request page in the Hack Requests forum.
