I've been wondering the same, I've been holding out on creating a style... I dont want to create a style and have vb3 come out, just so that I have to create a new style.
have you guys read Chen's post?
is this anyway related to pre-sales discussion?
yes it is. by the time vb3 is released, my licence will probably be expired.

i'm a lucky person smachol. people pay for my licences in exchange of my web graphic design or other webmaster services.. that's my deal i have with some of them. so i basically never pay for a licence.
just for the record, my next licence will be a full 160$ one, paid by ptbyjason, then renewed every year for the modic price of 30$.
he decided to do this, due to various services i provided for him and his site. as i said, i'm a very lucky person.... ;)

I cannot refuse this chance to say something that I have thought for a long time. I see guys on here like nakkid and others that are willing to do things for little or nothing and I have just recently realized how long and hard they work. Trying to create my own hack recently I realized that it wasn't easy at all. So for me to sit down and spend hours on a hack is almost a waste of time. For everyone that makes a hack they spend a lot of time learning php and tweaking things until they are right. Then after people like me who doesn't know what they are doing, tries to install it, we expect them to answer questions until it works right for each of us. When vb3 comes out, you can bet all of the old hacks will have replies asking the creators again how to make it work. I really don't think anyone who doesn't understand php should get upset when people want to charge for their hack or not release it now. If you don't agree with me, go try to create a hack that is requested. How much would you pay for someone else to do it instead?
IMO, I am doing my part to repay nakkid for the help he has given me since I had my board hacked. Helping me regain control of my board again was worth more than money when I thought about the thousands of members I had and thousands of posts on there that I would have lost without his help. This guy has done everything to help me and asked for nothing in return. He is a great guy for doing that. In turn I am doing my part to make sure he is still around to create hacks for others. He doesn't have a public board for members. He does this because he enjoys it and likes to help others. If he didn't continue to have a license, I feel that we would all be missing out on some great hacks that he can create.
So firefly, bira, ppn, nakkid, lesane, and everyone else along the way that has been patient with me and helped me, thanks guys, don't think I forgot about you. And sorry, I am only buying a license for nakkid. :)
Now in order to stay on subject......when is vb3 coming out? :p

Yeah... can we have some pics. of vB3 ? Just to see how the vB3 homepage would look. How much different the template system will be? Cuz all the hacks have to be addapted to vB3 again. :)

Of course the hacks will be developed though some of the things which are hacks on v2 are included in v3.

It's just a date I threw out there, others would say otherwise. Firefly could even give you his own expected date as he is there everyday testing things out.
i was wondering where we can view a screenshoot. i looked at vb.com hoping i will find any, without success.. :(

Screenshot of what? I can show the style I use, the one that makes it look like my forum but I can't show you the "real" vb3 style.

A couple of screen shots would be nice, even if it is not directly of the main vBulletin style :).
Also could you fill me in on one other thing? Will there be any additions to the vBulletin graphics dev kit? Such as buttons? As a designer of button sets, I would really like to know this as custom buttons take a while.
Thanks Freddie,

Thanks for the heads up FireFly, I will do just that tomorrow. I hope there will not be too many additions, maybe just some default color changes ;).

I figure it's because it looks just like vb2 and not showing any of the new features... I understand them not yet wanting to show anything, when ubb had a development board for v6, one of the mods let in (i believe it to be) some ikonboard people, and the perverbial crap hit the fan....

There is no style to show as that is the very last thing to do. It still "looks" and "feels" like vb2 and for the most part will remain that way when released. You will find the majority of the work was spent on the admin side in addition to taking all of the code to another level.
We have an insane template system now, no one will complain about this other than you might be overwhelmed by the power of it. Everything is CSS and XHTML transitional now. Users can be in multiple usergroups, users can automatically change usergroups based on criteria you set. You have all the options of custom profile fields (select, radio, textarea, select_multple, checkbox), you can search for them via the memberlist, you can choose which fields appear on the memberlist. There are linear and threaded views. You can allow your users to upload an image of themself, an image for their signature (so you can control it's size). You can store attachments in the DB or the FS. You can't use PHP code in templates still but you can do something now that is almost as powerful and will make hacking a lot easier and at the same time make our support job much harder. You will have alot more usergroup options to easily setup a system where specific users get more or less options, i.e. a pay for play system. And much more.. I don't think I have said more than has been said before other than those image upload options.

See it looks the same and is a mess of different things since style is the last thing to worry about right now.

Besides, when you see how many little annoying (for you) changes v2.2.5 has that are going to make upgrading a hacks a PIA, I am sure you will forget about vb3 for now.

this idea comes from wwwthreads (BBS that totally sucks as design but have a extremly stable code).

It's really up to you. I'm gonna continue making hacks for now, but probably won't bother making all of them vB3 compatible.
I see. I do have some large hacks in the works. But I am just wondering if the multiple attachments is going to be apart of vb3

because i still have problems with queries.. right firefly? hehe. I visit often but I am not looking for ideas as we have a set todo list to stick to. The only hack we have put in is the karma hack.
I find most of the hacks and ideas are only good for a niche market and so we won't put them in. Others require too much hassle to be efficiently done so we won't put them in.
If I am looking for something, it would probably be ideas that pertain to layout rather than features.
Karma hack!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! THE HORROR!!!! :p

i have a few questions
Will we have to upgrade our licenses to vb3?
if we have hacks installed vb2, what will happen to them in the upgrade
how does the upgrade work?
it might be better to just use a vb2 to vb3 post and username converter, and do a clean install of VB3

I don't think there will be any license changes nevessary.
in terms of upgrading, I would suggest reverting all hacks, and then upgrading, then re-implement the v3 hacks as they are released.
The new code is supposed to be completely different, and I estimate about 90% of the current hacks will be useless in v3.

Heh :D
It just occured to me....perhaps vb3 is done. Chen is just stalling so he can convert all his hacks :classic: :D :p
why all of this mystery about the release date we should know an estimated time for the release so that we can have better plans for our sites
I've been holding the new design for my site for over 2 months and from the look of vb3 beta man o man I'll need to change many many things

did you all forgat about the other relases? 1 day after relasing a version the other is realsed.
come on no one can have the release date even vB them selfes cause they are getting more requiestes every day and try to have the latest technology they can ofer to us.
All that I can say is "Best wishes and thanks a bunch to all the vB team" :)
