I don't want to reinstall every hack again...

Was just about to post my own request for this too. I know someone did such a thing for upgrading from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2, so if someone could do the same for upgrading from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3 it would be very much appreciated!!!

I agree - it's time for someone great to come up with another upgrade hack! :)

Definitely agree. If I had to redo the hacks on my board it would truely suck

I agree, and Disagree..
because all the hacks made so far are for vB 2.2.2 and below.. if you try to install the same hacks on 2.2.3b, it could screw up the whole forum and than you would have to re-install everything!!
But.. if someone has already tested this thing out.. and the hacks work with vb 2.2.3b, I am willing to do show everyone how you guys can upgrade, but first someone should clean install this new vb and install some hacks and see if they work, Than show it to me.. I will defentatly show everyone how to upgrade, heh!!
Good Luck

yeah me too...
Or at least the list of files that have changed...
I think that Jelsoft have the responsability for make a change log with the list of files and templates that have changed since the last version...

if anyone installs a clean vb2.2.3b and than install some vb2.2.2 hacks on it, and if thos hacks work, I will show everyone how to upgrade!!!

It's impossible to make an upgrade script that will keep your hacks.

But it is possible to create a list of what files you need to edit to make the upgrade to v2.2.3b, rather than having to upload fresh files and redo every single hack you've installed.

Excellent; I assume we're talking about a list of changes so that people can upgrade without losing their hacks and such?

Hey! PPN,

Is the timezone between Kilmarnock and Glasgow the same LOL, hows that change file coming along?

Scott MacVicar
03-07-2002, 10:01 PM
yes lol

Kilmarnock isn't far away from here, I live next to Glasgow Airport.

Anyway I got contacted by someone from Jelsoft and they asked me not to release an upgrade file as the new version contains security hole fixes, and basically if i make a mistake and leave the hole open you'll blaim me.

GeorgeofCS
03-07-2002, 10:11 PM
great :( so can we blame jelsoft for the hole in the first place?? :D

I've got like 130 hacks installed on my site. I can't spend the time reinstalling everything all over again. Took too much time the last time. If I had a couple weeks to waste I would really :p Guess I'm gonna wing it.

You could do the compare yourself and apply changes, then it would be your fault if you didn't apply the changes again and not mine :)

Does that mean you are not releasing an upgrade hack?

I hope not!!!

It should be noted that security holes will probably exist because of all the add-on hacks we have installed anyway, so we can't blame you or them for that.

Plus we all use hacks "at our own risks" anyway, and your upgrade hack will just be like any other hack, but a hack that closes some known security holes.

Yes I would be very afraid of some of the code I see being put into the files from this site. At the very least replace functions.php and both global.php's.

As with all hacks I've installed on my site including my own I take full responsiblity for any damage done to the boards regardless of who made the hack. As I've said I've installed 130 hacks on my board 60% of them are my own little tweaks and seeing I've actually worked with php for no more than 4 months I'd have to safely say that each and every hack I created could have screwed up my board, but that's what a backup copy is for. :p Believe me I know that backup copy all too well.

But with all the hacks I've installed I'd never be able to find all the changes. The upgrade file from the last upgrade saved me the last time. And thankfully it worked. But this one worries me because it seems like every time vb comes out with a security leak I get hacked with days of the notice.

Hey believe me if I made a peep about a hack like this I'd give you permission to whack me with the stupid stick :p

when one is installing hacks, if he is experienced with php at ALL, he would probably realize if he's installing something that will create security holes.

Yes, we all use hacks "at our own risks"

So do we wait for the hack or start upgrading and rehacking every thing again :(

Where it is possible to look changes which have taken place with vb2.2.2 up to 2.2.3?

Admin
03-08-2002, 01:11 PM
I'm afraid you will need to wait with the 2.2.2 to 2.2.3 upgrade hack for about a week, if anyone is willing to create that change log.
And no, it's not Jelsoft's responsibility to create this document.

See ya in about a week! :)
