I have and idea where you'll have a button beside pm called "Instant message" and when you click this button it will give u a list of all online users and the ability to click there name, type in your message and send...
Now to make it instant.....It has to pop-up right away as a "PROMPT" and instead of OK or CANCEL.......it will say CLOSE or REPLY.
also make it....
BE ABLE TO TURN IT ON AND OFF IN YOUR USERS PROFILE.
AND THE ABILITY TO BAN A USER FOR Instant Messaging....

Does that mean you're working on it, Neo?
That means I will work on it later... but what is funny is that if you click popup on new pm it will have the same effect... but bigger

with acception of the user ban.. I could make it in a night or two... all you need is a instant massage table with and add a few things to user then have some javascript and WOW... you have yourself a IM ?!?!?!?

I thought about it but wouldnt the page need to be refreshed for the prompt to appear....then its not instant :(
yeah.. you see thats the thing that is wrong with it.... it would just be a smaller version of the pm... unless you have javascript make it realtime... but that gets annoying and ohh the server fook

yes i was thinking about this same thing right now with the exeption that it would give the instant message handles of a particular person much like an IM profile and would be able to click on their IM names or some icon to be able to contact them. on my forums there are alot of people who use multiple Im services and adding all of those buttons to the postbit would look extremely ugly. if you can come up with something like this Neo it would be much appreciated :)
Would be cool if this could work on the online page !
Where members and guests can be im'ed through a click on there screen name or 'guest'.
I see lots of guests trying to do things around like voting on a poll, trying to post something while they can't, so this would give me the oppertunity to prompt them with a nice welcome and tell them if the want to vote or post something that they need to sign up.
I can't wait till this hack would be real!
I asked this a half year ago if this was possible, to get something similar as 'HumanClick' now called 'LivePerson' www.liveperson.com

this seems kinda nice, but i would rather modify the pm popup thingie instead of adding an additional service that takes up server load.

I have a stupid question....Why do you want an IM service on your vBulletin board if:
1.) It will just add more server loads and increase bandwidth?
2.) You can just go to their user profile and get their IM names from there
and 3.) is more of a rhetorical question I guess, but, don't you think if they didn't enter their IM names in their user profile then it means that they either didn't want to put it there, or they just didn't put it there?
Just some food for thought, but it does sound like a neat idea :)

Hmmm, have you looked at www.integritymessenger.com they are facilitating message board integration, and are looking for message board companies to work with.
I think a screen shot is on the "About Us" page.

the integrity messenger looks very good. I wonder if anyone can set it up so that you are forced to use your username. I would love to integrate that into my board.

Might be a possibility, not sure. The Integrity Messenger is all module based for re-branding, all icons on it lead to where the webmaster wants.
The sick part is, its net to wireless, WAP, and Palm support. Imagine browsing message boards from a wireless messenger. Thats what these guys are doing, and a lot more.
Needless to say, the colors of the Integrity Messenger match the colors at vBulletin.org very well.
Maybe they should contact someone at vBulletin.com about working with vBulletin? I dont know, what you all think?

This would be really cool. Some of my users asked for an instant messaging system where by you could click a name on 'who's online' and get a tiny popup window with a formfield in and send them a message.
the next time that person moves page a popup window will open with the message in it, and a form field to send one back.
there would obviously need to be some kind of client side javascript to refresh the tiny page (! server load?) every 30 secs to see if that person had replied to your message or not. But it works for those HTML style chatrooms so why not for this?
anyone else think this would go down really well with their members?

I've been waiting for an IM System on vb. Zero Forum has something like that and it's great. Go here to see it in action:
http://demo.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=1&postid=1#1
Just login as admin and im yourself to see what it's like. There's a standard version and a graphical version.

I am in the midst of adding 486x60 banners to the top of my pages, from doubleclick.net, for a very nice price. I would think that if the IM system was integrated, to make it worth while, you could set it so that in the IM pop ups, the banner code would be implemented. The IM box wouldnt look funny at a 486 width. There's your solution to bandwidth overload.

Integrity Messenger is just like Odigo (http://www.odigo.org). Basically has the same principle.
Integrates ICQ, AIM, YAHOO, MSN, and shows all the ppl that are using Odigo on certain websites that you're browsing at the time.
rockergrrl.. good to see you back, where have you been?? :)
you preffer more the vB.com side?

I've always been here... :)
I frequent both, daily.. sometimes around 5 times/day. :)
I just don't post a lot here, that's all. I sometimes tend to be more of a lurker... But I usually have no problems installing a hack.. so I have no need for help... ;) And if I have problems, then I usually try and fix it myself.
I post more frequently at vb.com than .org - but I'm here about the same about of time each day -- sometimes both at the same time (like right now!) :D
But I'm interested in instant messaging though -- my members requested it a long time ago (well over a year ago). I have a small board, so server intensity/bandwidth isn't a problem with me. But may be for others, naturally...
Also one reason why I've been a quiet user, is because I've been sooooooper busy lately. I've been busy trying to open a business, design work, and running after my 2 year old son -- all at the same time! :)
But I'm here... :)
It was nice of you to notice! :D

Maybe make some sort of new Messenger interface that uses your Buddies List like MSN messenger when it displays the online and offline uses, the buddy list here works the same way, so you can use this, then when they click on the users name they can message the person :) Very vague description, but ok...

^^; I would like this but it seems like no one's really working on it
I saw it on one site where it made just a private chatroom between two users where the users could select whether other people can join in or not

I wrote a basic IM script, actually, but never pressed on enough to get the JavaScript alert notification part working. The core of the script functions just fine, however.

Some forums have the feature, but the writers didn't post them publically at vB.org...FFDiscovery.com is one of them. They have a great IM script.
