IMPORTANT: If you are using v2.2.3 and up please read this thread!

This is more of a visual change, but still requires hacking the files.
All it does is make the look of [code], [php] and [quote] codes better (IMO), instead of the ugly lines which are used right now.

i'm sure you could satisfy the masses :D

This makes quotes look great but what I'd like it to do not to have a seperate colour of it's own but be the opposite alt colour i.e. if it's in a post with firstaltcolour background then the background will be secondaltcolor

Great work my friend
You may want to insert the following into your postbit_signature so they too look as cool.
<normalfont><br><br>
<table cellSpacing="1" cellPadding="3" width="90%" align="center" border="0" align="center">
<tr><td>
<font face="verdana" size="1"><b>Signature:</b></font></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td style="BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #000000 1px solid; FONT-SIZE: 11px; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; COLOR: #eeeeff; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #1d6aa0">

Code & php vBcode hacks do require alternation of the php files, but for signature & quote you can just apply template hack. See mah sig :) FireFly, very cool done, .. :)

Is there any way to have this hack automatically detect the background colour of the post it's in and to set the table background colour to the alternate colour as specified in the style?
yes there is a way x-fan. and is not that hard also.

Yep, so you put in the code to find as...
{codebackground}
...and the code to insert as the number of the colour you want as the background of the box.
Then do another with...
{codefontcolor}
...as the code to find and then the number of the colour you want as the colour of the text in the box (usually #000000 for black or #FFFFFF for white).

But you posted. "There is a way, it's not that hard also". So if you are not prepared to share it (fair enough). Why did you say that? To taunt people with your knowledge? To somehow say "I'm better than you because I know stuff you don't know?"
I have hacks on my board that I don't share with everybody, mostly because they lack a proper user interface etc. But I don't come onto the forum saying what I've done and then refuse to let anyone know how I've done it!

hey Fireflu, i'm having troubles getting the colors inside the quote box to be a different color. Right now, i think it's automatic cell color and it's just the same as the cell color that I posted in. I tried editing the replacement values and such but it still doesn't work, i tried manually inserting a hex color in the {codebackground} place but still nothing, can u plz tell me what ihave to edit, the color i'm trying to insert is something like #167D24

Vivi, I had the same problem. I had added the colon to the variables as in the text ,

so I removed the colon and that fixed it.

Im getting the same problem. No color changes with or without the colon character.
Also, do I paste:
<table border="0" align="center" width="90%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td><smallfont><b>quote:</b></smallfont></td></tr><tr><td style="BORDER: #000000 1px solid; FONT-SIZE: 11px; COLOR: {codefontcolor}; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; BACKGROUND-COLOR: {codebackground};">{param}</td></tr></table>

I just replaced original QUOTE tag with one I found long time ago at vb.com forum:
< table border="0" align="center" width="90%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" bgcolor="#a0a0a0" style="font: xx-small" >< tr >< td >< b >Quote:< /b >< /td >< /tr >< tr >< td class="quote" >{ param }< /td >< /tr >< /table >

I did that too, but the table border is too thick, and I had some problems with quoting in general. This hack works better imo, the only problem Im having is no backround coloring.

Its basically the same with Vivi. I added the hack, but the boxes dont become a different color. I added the replacement values, but it doesnt seem to do anything. See attachment for what Im getting at.
Also, im not sure if its supposed to be like this, but if I quote a post that has a quote, I only get the text quoted, not the original quote. Nesting I think its called? Its in the shot.
And lastly, do I replace the other vB code for things like PHP etc?

The problem is this line in functions.php this changed with version 2.2.3b:

so comment this line with "//"...

Im curious if there is someway to make the boxs (td bgcolor) alternate oppositely of the first and second alt colors for tables?
Example: In a thread the background for each postbit alternates between the two colors chosen for the replacement variables firstaltcolor and secondaltcolor. I think it would be cool to have these boxes alternate in the opposite, so that in a post with the firstaltcolor as its BG, the box inside it displays the secondaltcolor.

weird problem. I upgraded from 2.2.2 to 2.2.5 and made the mods to the functions.php file. I did not change the replacement or anything else.

Yeah - that happened to me too. All I did to fix that in 2.2.5 is to replace the {codefontcolor} and {codebackgroundocolor} with the actual color hex codes both in the vbcode section as well as in functions.php.
In other words, I hard-coded the color rather than used the replacement variables - it works like a charm. I suspect that if you did not want to do this you just need to run the db query again.

Nakkid, someone postedIs there any way to have this hack automatically detect the background colour of the post it's in and to set the table background colour to the alternate colour as specified in the style?
And you understandably declined to help unless the poster could prove that he was licensed. So, I have done this, how do I get that code?
I am trying something complicated:
I am trying to make the postbit template show in 3D but because it involves an elaborate style sheet with varying pixel widths for the top/left borders and the right/bottom borders and the colors not being readily available in the ACP (there are too few color options anyway) I am forced to hard code the color values in the Postbit template. But that means that the second alternate color will have the wron highlights and shades. How am I to solve that?
Please see a 3d example at P?LiNCO (http://www.polinco.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=12)
Side-by-side works since this is all in the same table row but the Postbit template has only room for one or the other.
Please help.
Thanks,
Polly

I don't know whom that was directed at but it doesn't sound like you wrote it to me.
What you are looking for is probably somewhere in functions.php and as far as I can remember has been discussed here already.
Now... could Nakkid please get in touch with me regarding the hack I asked about? Does it involve adding replacement variables?
If yes, I would have to add 4 replacement variables and a new style to the header template to be able show 3d borders. in postbit, forumdisplay_threadslist and other templates.
Please sir, show thyself :)

I am running vb 2.2.5...
In the .txt file, it says to look for :
return "</normalfont><blockquote><pre><smallfont>PHP:</smallfont><hr>$buffer<hr></pre></blockquote><normalfont>";
}
// ###################### Start stripbrsfromcode #######################
function stripbrsfromcode($foundcode) {
$foundcode = str_replace("\\\"","\"",$foundcode);
return "</normalfont><blockquote><pre><smallfont>code:</smallfont><hr>" . str_replace("<br>", "", str_replace("<br />", "", $foundcode) ) . "<hr></pre></blockquote><normalfont>";
but in my functions.php I have :
return "</normalfont><blockquote><smallfont>PHP:</smallfont><hr><pre>$buffer</pre><hr><smallfont>(double click the code to copy it)</smallfont></blockquote><normalfont>";
}
// ###################### Start stripbrsfromcode #######################
function stripbrsfromcode($foundcode) {
$foundcode = str_replace("\\\"","\"",$foundcode);
return "</normalfont><blockquote><smallfont>code:</smallfont><hr><pre>" . str_replace("<br>", "", str_replace("<br />", "", $foundcode) ) . "</pre><hr><smallfont>(double click the code to copy it)</smallfont></blockquote><normalfont>";
}
I tried replacing :
return "</normalfont><blockquote><smallfont>PHP:</smallfont><hr><pre>$buffer</pre><hr><smallfont>(double click the code to copy it)</smallfont></blockquote><normalfont>";
}
// ###################### Start stripbrsfromcode #######################
function stripbrsfromcode($foundcode) {
$foundcode = str_replace("\\\"","\"",$foundcode);
return "</normalfont><blockquote><smallfont>code:</smallfont><hr><pre>" . str_replace("<br>", "", str_replace("<br />", "", $foundcode) ) . "</pre><hr><smallfont>(double click the code to copy it)</smallfont></blockquote><normalfont>";
}
with :
return "</normalfont><table border=\"0\" align=\"center\" width=\"90%\" cellpadding=\"3\" cellspacing=\"1\"><tr><td><smallfont><b>PHP:</b></smallfont></td></tr><tr><td style=\"BORDER: #000000 1px solid; FONT-SIZE: 11px; COLOR: #EEEEFF; FONT-FAMILY: Courier, Courier New, sans-serif; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #1D6AA0;\"><pre>" . $buffer . "</pre></td></tr></table><normalfont>";
}
// ###################### Start stripbrsfromcode #######################
function stripbrsfromcode($foundcode) {
$foundcode = str_replace("\\\"","\"",$foundcode);
return "</normalfont><table border=\"0\" align=\"center\" width=\"90%\" cellpadding=\"3\" cellspacing=\"1\"><tr><td><smallfont><b>code:</b></smallfont></td></tr><tr><td style=\"BORDER: #000000 1px solid; FONT-SIZE: 11px; COLOR: #EEEEFF; FONT-FAMILY: Courier, Courier New, sans-serif; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #1D6AA0;\"><pre>" . $foundcode . "</pre></td></tr></table><normalfont>";
but I got a parse error...
What went wrong?

Hi all, I might be a bit late but just noticed this one... :)
Anyway, I installed this hack :
AutoCopy Code and PHP to clipboard
Version 1.0
By Nakkid (vBulletin.org hacker)
But now I want to install this new box look hack and I noticed it asks to replace the same code.... and I know I'll screw this up. I also noticed that right here on vb.org they also use both hacks so I tought, is there a hack that combines the 2 or gives more information on what to remove add to make the hacks work with eachother... ?
Tnx.

err, after installing this on 225, took a couple of secs, but then i noticed the colors weren't shwing, hit the view source button and noticed that { is replaced by &123;
to fix this find $bbcode=str_replace("{", "{", $bbcode); // stop people posting replacements in their posts in functions.php and remove it. :D

Remove this line from newreply.php and nested quotes will not be stripped:

in the newreply.php. Let me know if it works. ;)

I was able to install the hack succesfully, but now I am getting repeats of the "quote" and the code version of "quote", respectively.
I ran the queries and all, can you tell me how to undue this snafu so that only the quote box shows up and not the old style of "quote" (posted underneath the quote box).
Here's a thread that illustrates what I am trying to describe. thanks in advance... any help would be really appreciated!!!! :)

I checked that but I don't undertsnad what that has to do with it. Here's what I did to fix it.
I replaced:
#ffffff; FONT-FAMILY: Courier, Courier New, sans-serif; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #273549;\"><pre>" . $foundcode .
with:
#ffffff; FONT-FAMILY: Courier, Courier New, sans-serif; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #273549;\"><pre>".str_replace("<br>","",str_replace("<br />","",$foundcode)).
and that seemed to take the extra spaces out of the code box.
Is there a better or easier way to do the same thing?

The problem lies in that initial { at the start of the new replacement variables...
Just follow the original instructions but when you see

remove the { - replace it with:
codefontcolor}
codebackground}
respectively.
Works fine on 2.3.0

im really only interested in the [quote] portion of this. however, i don't want the text being forced to another color if the person's text color is custom set (such as light blue).
would what i need to do be this:
<table border="0" align="center" width="90%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>
<smallfont><b>quote:</b></smallfont></td></tr><tr><td style="BORDER: #000000 1px solid; FONT-SIZE: 11px;
FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; BACKGROUND-COLOR: { codebackground };">{param}</td></tr></table>
basically just removing the COLOR statement from the td style...?

nm, answered my own question when curiosity got the best of me and i just went ahead and tried it out. works fine.
Great hack, although i'm having one problem, I get the following error when ever someone quotes a message:
Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_STRING' or `T_VARIABLE' or `T_NUM_STRING' in /web/domain.com/path/newreply.php(47) : eval()'d code on line 1
Any ideas would be appreciated
Anyone? :confused:
This hack works fine on my second and third template, but nor my default one.
Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_STRING' or `T_VARIABLE' or `T_NUM_STRING' in /web/www.cyclingforums.com/html/newreply.php(47) : eval()'d code on line 1
So is there a way to get this wo work with 2.2.9 without removing the { in front of the variables? I am trying to add this to the admincp and I can't right now... :(

When you're ready to upgarde, I did a hack for blocking code that also has it where you can just click anywhere in the box and it will copy it to the clipboard (just like that had for vB2). The update for it to do that is on my site. ;)

im using 2.3.* and have this installed on a test forum.
There must be a way to make the new boxes "scrollable" like here @ vbulletin.org... i have seen it on another 2.* version.
Can anyone find a way to do this for 2.3.* ?
