Damn this is a sweet hack, for anyone that doesnt know its a place were you can trade points you have earned on the forum for new features such as Custom User Titles and Avatars....
Ive just started trying to make a working version of this myself and was wondering if anyone else has anything in the works?

I believe their was a smaller version of this hack created by someone else, but it was not a replica of the Shinra Store. If I have any say in this, I would say go for it. A lot of people have asked him about that hack and I would like to see it released. :)

I just based Points on different posts...if someone posted a new thread I give them 2 points, if they reply in the help section I give them 1 point, if they make requests for sigs I deducted a point...its just based on whats best for your board really

Ive already got the points going if you wanna use this...I just added another counter and based it on certain posts, its simple but it does the job

PPN, search for Palmer's Points Hack
It uses a table in userinfo (where bibliograpgy,location etc is), usually a new one. if its the only custom one added, it should be row 5.

I'm just going to limit it to things which I know people will have installed, if you wish to create your own things you'd need to code it into the hack.

yes you can make addons for someone elses software, not much coding involved in that, you already have the structure there just gotta know how to manipulate the data.
A coder in my opinion is someone that knows multiple languages and can create their own software / scripts.
But anyway I'm doing the permanent and temporary custom title just now, it involves a little editing of some templates and your member.php file.
What makes you think I only code hack for VB? Currently I am making a huge game site in PHP/MySQL/Java and Java Script
So I don consider myself a coder since I can code what I want to make :p
But you are right, a coder is someone that can manipulate the data of the language to their liking

SQL, PHP, Perl, mIRC, VB, JavaScript and a little java
Yeah I go for more web programming than I do system. I am going to learn Java and then C just so I can manipulate the web and PHP to do what I want.

True, but not so... I am to lazy to spend months and months to make this forum when I have other projects to addend to... if you look at the code.. it is large.... I use it mostly to make hacks and play around with code... I could make this board... but why when I could get it for 160 instead of 6 months.. :zzz:

Saiyan shut up, I do all this hacking in my free time as well as running my own software site and admining my own forums and sites. Now i mod here as well and help people with problems on vB.com and then i have this girlfriend who gets most of my time so I have a pretty big list of stuff to do.
I will release this when I am satisfied that it is of working order.

I think that would work just by uploading the users picture to your own websever and allowing them to link it. But I may be wrong.
yea.. but it wouldnt work very automatically.... they would be delayed... and u'd need a way too clarify that the user has spent the points

Just letting you all know, I'm also anxious for this type of hack :) On my forum, www.dnforum.com and the karma hack, I am going to implement a system like get a free domain once you get 1000 points or so, this would be funded by advertising.
This shop hack for custom titles, avatars, change username etc would be real nice, I hope someone decides to release something. :)
^^ now vivi made this hack but its RPG forums only.... :( i think afterlab still has it unreleased..... i hope PPN makes it :(`

lol, First PPN said he should make the hack. He said on March 4 that he's ready to release that hack that night on a beta. Atleast u could let these ppl know whats going on and if u decide it to finish it or not u should say something. U taked the request PPN and if u dont want to finish it or release it then personally i fully understand but atleast you could let us know about it. So PPN, are u gonna release/finish it or not? If not then i will start with it, if yes then i ain't gonna start with making it.
Then our tough Neo comes into the thread and laughs at all the script kiddies and says he could make a small version in 2 days :D
Then Afterlab wanted to share the power with PPN and creates a hack together. He made a great hack(shop) and i fully understand that he's not releasing it.
Then finally we all are waiting.... :laugh:
Like I said I could creat it in 2 days or less due to the fact that that its only a few sql queries and such then you are done. the custom avatar is the only hard part of it... not really hard... but the user title and change user name ar easy.... but I desided not to make one besause PPN siad he was going to make one...... I havent seen him much on VB.org any more.

Personally.. I wouldn't want it released. Because that ranks ShinRa, FFR, and AllSquare's forums lower because we lose a part of what makes our Forums unique. I have been taught that the more unique your Forums are, the more attention and visitors you'll get.
Very true.. and my forum would lose its "bam" once it opens.. it funny though.. I think this should be something that people pay for.. but instead people release it with no though that have to respect for us the spend long hours thinking about it, making it, so we can have unique forums... but I guess the respect doesnt matter any more... people just take ideas without any though..

Very true, neo. I wouldn't give any hack away for any money amount, because then that person would spread it to another -- an so on, for free. Just as tons of people do with their own vBulletin forums. And you know what, the person who creates this hack, whether it be PPN, Lesane or anyone else -- they will probably receive full credit from the community anyways. I hate the fact that if you make something to your Forums, that someone can make a hack of it and release it to everyone. Kinda like taking someone's clothes off and wearing them for the day.. Getting all the credit.

Sorry, I really don't understand what you all are talking about, I'm new the the vbulletin thing. I was simply commenting on e__dove's post for the features he thought would be cool. Afterlab, sorry if I missed that you were the one to come up with this idea.
I have a question: I've seen on some other thread's where people made or made and not releasing this type of "point" system hack (I guess it's called a shop), why is this so? Neo, you said once you release it a ton of people would claim it as thier own, do you mean just by using it on the thier forums, or telling thier board members that they made it?
Neo, was your last post directed towards me? Please explain how I took someone's idea and tried to make it my own.

I know.. Its really bad.. I mean you can have something on you site no rpg site can live without.. but you made it for your site only... then they request it someone makes it then what?? you get jacked by someone that took your idea... I give 100% credit to shinra online for the store hack and have even asked if I could make a store for my site... they even helped me a little before I could code well... and unless you patent the idea itself.. there is nothing you can do to stop it.. but hope the hack makers will respect that a few sites that created the base of it.. dont want it made.

Ok yea, maybe I should learn some php and make my own little damn "store" hack or whatever.. I mean I thought it would be nice to use something like this, so many people, this huge community writing little add-ons; are you thinking about not releasing this because then every vBulletin will use it, and eventually people will modify it, etc.? I would be up for paying for something like this, and afterlab says he wouldn't do this for any amount of money just because people will spread it, this is kind of like pirating software, sometimes nobdoy can be too sure, but if you can trust who you sell something to, I think this will work out..
This would be great for my board, I'm willing to pay, just get to know who you sell this to, there are some really strait people out here..

Thats very true. If someone where to sell it they would have to make a agreement not to give / sell it to other people.. like the way vb operates. The main problem is that there are people out there that dont care and release it anyways not matter what. I know ShinraOnline will make a custom store for $$$ as told by the maker of the store... But eventually this store thing will wear out and the ones that really really want it will leanr PHP just to make something like it...

Now, about the hacks that you are doing, that could be some of the best works I could appreciate from this forum, as I am getting ready to start a new RPG forum. (Once I get $160!) Shoudl be around mid April when I get the spare cash.
Making people pay for a hack is wrong, IMO. Also, gloating about your forums hacks, and then saying that every bit of interest that is on them will not be released is one of the rudest things in my book. Bragging is what I hate. You guys here are ripping on this Saiyen (sp?) guy just for wanting to know some details, and then at the same time you are pestering PPN and the others about when they are going to be done! Please, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. Isn't that basically what you told that other guy? Yup.
I just took a look at Shinra's setup for the first time a couple of minutes ago, and I instantly fell in love with it. The idea of buying things based on factors such as post count, and the points hacks, is wondeful! I don't see this thing getting old, or blowing over. It's a great hack, and if I had enough knowledge to code something like this, I would release and feel good about myself, knowing that I made so many people happy about their forums and its features. I wouldn't be worrying about what other people think of it, or how they plan to rip it off, or how I won't be able to brag about my forum for having something exclusive anymore! Instead, I would give support for the hack, tend to the people's needs, maybe make a few updates, and carry on!
But what you dont understand is that for the people that created this in the first place now dont have a unique forum.. now every forum has the same thing as they do and then it gets old.. its not like "wow they have a site store!!!" it would be more life "just another store... thats it???" and as for Saiyen.. he was spamming to much.. it takes time to fix something.. not 1 min... people can chose to charge for hacks if they want.. its their code so they have the right to.. if you dont agree with that you can either not have it or make it yourself.

This is a community of vB hackers. IMO, that means a group of peoiple get together and brainstorm new ideas to add onto their vbulletin. It's not about having the best vB out there. It's about making as many people as you can, happy.
I don't have a problem with you not releasing something, but you don't go around and brag about it, and your skills in programming... In all the while, saying that you will be releasing it, then all of a sudden, choose not to do so, simply so you can have something in your forums that few other people have.
The vibe I'm getting from you and Afterlab in this thread is "I want everything for myself, and don't want to help anyone."

Afterlab, u did the same, u also made a store like shinra's one. Ok its different but the idea is the same. Neo is making it and will release it for his own board so Neo also stole the idea. I'm very busy with making the hack and i'm also one that stole the idea. Isn't that selfish if we say to other persons to not release the hack due the unique idea of the shinraonline forum?
If ShinraOnline will make a store for poeple that wants to give $$$ for it then the script will be spread very soon + poeple with a little knowlegde of php will make something like that and it will wear out like Neo said. Pirates will get the store very soon and in the meanwhile the vbulletin org community is waiting for someone with a little php knowlegde that will release the store hack.
Well I asked ShinraOnline if I could use the store idea they they said yes. But I guess it doesnt matter either way.. it will become old and the store hack will just be another hack that everyone has.

Neo the main reason boards lose their uniqueness is from bragging... saying "My board is good because it has ..." will spread the idea and people will want it... some hacks i wouldnt release.. but this is so open now that not releasing it wouldnt stop someone from eventually releasing it anyway as the idea has already been spread..... personally i want this hack.... and i hope someone releases it... but i guess i can live without or pay for it...

I have a card system on my forum, if a user start to diss or hate or anything else thats not tolerated then he first receive a yellow card. If the user do it again then he receive a red card and after the red card the banning feature will be enabled. With above action the user can scrap his yellow card or if he has a red card then he can reduce it to the yellow card.

Every action can be turned off in the admin. If you dont need the action "scrap a card" then you can turn it easily off in the admin.
I'm free tomorrow and i hope i can finish it tomorrow.

This is a good hack but it will ruin (not ruin but disfigure) some boards. afterlab has a great forum, the best part is the store parts. It's that little spice that gives it that touch and makes people sign-up and post there. Now if every board had that, people would not have as many reasons to go there because it's "just another board." This is the pure and only reason why I will never post a link to my board. As soon as I post it, people will visit it maybe once or twice to get some ideas and then mass post in requests until my board too is "just another board."
I'm not trying to criticize anybody here, you're all doing what you want best for your board just as I do and will. I've seen the store hack few months ago and have had one installed on my board for a long time with different features. I know vBulletin is suppose to be about sharing hacks and everything but everybody wants their site to be unique and attract visitors because you provide them with something other sites don't. Don't you want that?

I asked shinraonline (reeve and palmer) about releasing the store hack that i made. They both agreed and didn't have a problem with it. That's very cool from them since i also told them that i won't release my store hack if they didn't agreed.

Well, as I said. Everybody on this board what they see, if they like, they will take/make/steal or any other term you wish to use including me. There's a difference between 1 person taking it for their board and releasing it to 10,000 people that most want to put on their board. So a ratio between 4 people taking it or 6,000 people taking it. I'd say 4 isn't going to make much difference in the world of "lets have a unique website".

I think the uniqueness of our forums comes from our members.
People with a unique wit and sarcastic sense of humor that blends right in with the rest of them. The staff with thier idea's and laid back manner are also a plus.
I do think the hacks add a certain something to the place, but, my personal opinion is that its not the end all be all. If someone comes along after us and makes a similiar hack, then more power to them. Hopefully they will add something to it that will stir the creative juices allowing some else to make it better yet.
Besides, new idea's are what keeps the members comming back. Not hogging old ones. The store - great as it is, has had its time. Its not the nifty new toy it was a year ago.
And that's just my two cents. Mine, not nessarilly that of my co-admins.

That's a good point but at the start you need to offer them something unique so that they join because if your forum is brand new and it's got the same topic as a forum with 1,000 members, they are most likely to join the other board unless you give them something extremly unique that will make them want to stay but if you're ok with releasing this hack to everyone it's fine then since you were the original creator of the idea and i do respect lesane for asking you because if it was my site and somebody just released it without asking, i wouldn't be too happy.
i agree with reeve... my board is unique.. not because of hacks.. but because of the forums and just ideaS of how too have fun........
There are lots of boards like mine, but mine too me and my members is special, and somewhat different personality wise....

Commenting and bragging about everything (like in forum comments), and now complaining because the idea isn't unique anymore is pathetic.
Let me tell you something- 6 months ago when our site came up with a forum RPG, nobody here ever said anything about it. now it's not such a unique thing, and there are tons of sites that will have it soon.
Face it: on the net, nothing stays unique for long. Do what we did - suck it up, or keep quiet about it until it's released. otherwise you're crying wolf.
god, think about Jelsoft, when they see phpbb (which is an absolute ripoff). Just make yours better quality, and have one hell of a community, and people will come to your site.
I go to many forums, but if the community is crap, I don't care what nifty toys they have, I won't go there.

Yeah, I made it... but even then... the concept wasn't too new for us.
We had been running the "gil and store" since about 3 months after we started our board (and we're going on 20 months now) back on the UBB.
The concept only got noticed after I made the hack... and even then, people didn't care about it for over a month.
People can rip my ideas... *shrug* Fact is, I am the one who's known as the originator of this concept, and still to this day, people refer to "Shinra's Store"
I don't care if everyone and their pet munkey has a store hack now...
The recognition and reputation makes up for it.

The store was a unique concept... for a while. But it was never a draw... it was never an attracting feature.
No one came because we had it. It did help add some 'stick' to the forum... but it was never a selling point.
We started it because it was a fun idea. We built it up because it's a useful tool.
It encourages good posting. Good posts are rewarded with points.
Bad ones are rewarded with mocking and derision.
Make good posts, and you can have the perks of the forum... title, avatar... BB Code in your title... even renting your own forum for a month.

Anyone can use the idea. I encourage it, personally... it gets creativity and learning going.
