Hi i was wondering how to make the color Silver ?
Either in photoshop or Fireworks.....
Can anyone help please..
Example of the nice shiny silver in ZIP file
use the gradient tool. also there are tonz of filters to help you make it the way you want. i personally dont use filters. i like to make it from scratch and use alot of layers so i can correct easy anything. ;)

How would I make this to begin with so that I could change the colors. I can't seem to get the "bevel" look, everything comes out flat.
Thanks

photoshop's action palette is a macro recording/editing/playback feature that captures commands as you enter them. once you press record, photoshop makes a copy of all the 'actions' you take, including settings used for a particular technique or procedure. another user's actions are easily imported, allowing you to create the same style or effect with one click.
pass your mouse over the text to see what the action looks like:

you'll find lots of Actions download sites.
here's two.

the easiest way to work on this is to make a 10x10px square and apply the gradient tool on it. then you + 1000times and you pick the colors. in this way, when you do your new gradient group, your colors will be in the same family.
the best example is the logo i made for vb.org, i used the same technique to keep associated the group of colors. the results are stunning sometimes.. ;)

It sounds like you're asking about art techniques.
If you're looking for a quick way of really getting the look you want, study the buttons and pictures that you're trying to emulate. Specifically, look at where there's highlight, where there's shadow. Look at the texture. Pay attention to the colors. Do your best to recreate the same techniques, and when you're done, you'll end up with something that looks silver.
