I am in desperate need for a hack for smilies. My users love them but I don't to upload too many of them or it will overwelm them.

This would probably be similar to the avatar categories hack.

Any takers?

It was? As far as I was able to find, I was the only one requesting it. In any case, it was never created so I bumped the request.

Actually in beta hacks there's a trying about creating categories (or multi-page) for smilies.
--- > HERE (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35286)
But they aren't actually categories as you have to create manually one by one all the pages and add all the smilies within...

Bah ?!?! :(

Yea, I saw that. Not too bad, but I would prefer on that I wouldn't have to manually add 100s of smilies.

I'm trying to realize it myself, simply adding a category table to the db and a column to the smilies...
Not too much different from the Avatar Categories hack.
Main problem I see at now is the category/upload feature...
but at the moment I'm workin' on the drop-down listbox to choose the different smilies in the popup window... ;)

Does nobody have any idea about all the chinese-box flavour templates involved ??? ;) ;) ;)

vb3 has categories for avatars/smilies/icons in case you want to wait.

I FEAR to wait !!! ;)
As I can hear around, with the major release 3 almost all the hacks should be thrashed due to a totally new philosophy... Well, even a lot of them would be directly included by your hard work, I took months and months to understand the 2.x schemes... and now, as said, I fear the new revolution (as many people feel about new things... of course)

P.S.: nowaday I have more than 40 official hacks installed and about 10-15 my personal - not packaged - ones... How long do you think I'll spend to upgrade all the code .... eheh?

P.P.S.: vb.com is now running on 2.2.3 !!! just FYI !

Well. Estimated time to revolution ? :)
Thanks, hwr.

Very few current hacks will work in v3.0 as everything has changed.

*Sob*

Hey freddie, just an idea: If you have a ton of hacks that have added things to database, how about jelsoft (or someone else, for that matter) Make a script that auto drops all tables that aren't included in 2.2.x so they can easily integrate the new vb3 with the old (and perhaps hacked) vb 2.2.2 -Would such a thing work?

good idea. I am sure that most of us don't/can't remember what table additions have been added with all the upgrades.
